Officially, it is a competitive magnet school for gifted students in physics, engineering, chemistry, robotics, computer science, biomedical research, and advanced mathematics. Unofficially, it has become one of the most superhumanly active high schools in North America.

The school has produced prize-winning inventors, scholarship students, science-fair prodigies, robotics champions, teen researchers, and, somewhat more alarmingly, multiple costumed heroes and villains.

== A School For Young Geniuses ==

Nathaniel Nova High School was founded to provide exceptional technical education for students with unusual scientific promise. Its laboratories, workshops, computer facilities, observatory, clean rooms, and robotics spaces are far beyond what most high schools can offer. Students routinely build machines, run experiments, write code, and propose theories that would make ordinary school boards nervous.

The school’s culture is intense, competitive, and eccentric. Students argue over quantum mechanics in the cafeteria, build experimental drones in club rooms, turn homework into patentable devices, and occasionally cause evacuations because someone “improved” the chemistry lab.

Faculty at Nathaniel Nova are accustomed to brilliance, arrogance, sleep deprivation, unstable prototypes, and teenagers insisting that “nothing can possibly go wrong.” In Pacific City, that phrase has come to be regarded as a serious warning sign.

== Supernova Squadron ==

A few years ago, Nathaniel Nova became home to a team of young superheroes who called themselves the '''[[Supernova Squadron]]'''. The original Squadron was made up of students who used their powers, inventions, courage, and questionable time-management skills to protect the school, Pacific City, and occasionally the world.

The team operated in secret at first, juggling homework, curfews, extracurriculars, teenage drama, and crimefighting. Their adventures involved rogue experiments, school rivalries, alien gadgets, runaway robots, neighborhood emergencies, and threats that adults generally learned about after the fact. They were brave, talented, and lucky enough to survive being young heroes before they were old enough to rent a car.

For a time, Nathaniel Nova High School had the strange distinction of being both one of the best technical schools in California and the informal headquarters of a teenage superhero team.

== Rock N' Roll ==

Supernova Squadron’s recurring enemies were a group of teenage supervillains called '''[[Rock n' Roll]]'''. The group combined superhuman powers, stolen technology, theatrical rebellion, and the kind of bad judgment possible only among teenagers convinced they are smarter than every adult in the room.

Rock n' Roll clashed with Supernova Squadron several times, usually in battles that were equal parts dangerous, embarrassing, and wildly destructive. Their fights damaged school property, ruined academic events, interrupted dances, disrupted assemblies, and gave the administration an increasingly difficult time explaining why so many “gas leaks” occurred around advanced-placement students.

Despite their villainous ambitions, Rock n' Roll were still teenagers. They had homework, parents, crushes, curfews, rivalries, and extremely poor impulse control. This made them dangerous in a very specific way: not grand conquerors, but brilliant young troublemakers with powers and no sense of proportion.

== The Senior Prom Incident ==

The rivalry between Supernova Squadron and Rock n' Roll reached its height at the senior prom, in what remains the most infamous event in Nathaniel Nova’s history. The evening began as a formal school dance and ended as a full-scale superhero battle involving costumes, music, explosions, damaged decorations, collapsing stage equipment, frantic chaperones, and enough parent phone calls to overwhelm the school office.

By the end of the battle, the villains of Rock n' Roll were defeated and unmasked. In the same moment, the costumed heroes of Supernova Squadron chose to unmask themselves as well. What had been a secret war between teenage heroes and teenage villains suddenly became a public revelation in front of classmates, teachers, families, dates, photographers, and half the senior class.

The discovery stunned Pacific City. Nathaniel Nova High School had not merely been the site of repeated superhuman incidents; it had been home to both a teenage superhero team and its costumed arch-enemies. Students who had sat through labs together, argued over homework, competed for scholarships, and danced awkwardly under paper streamers were revealed as masked heroes and villains who had been battling one another for months.

For the students involved, the consequences were immediate, personal, and mortifying. There were police interviews, school hearings, disciplinary meetings, media attention, legal questions, and, worst of all, parents. Rock n' Roll’s members were not dragged off as faceless super-criminals that night. They were exposed as teenagers who had made dangerous choices, and many of them first had to face furious mothers, stunned fathers, disappointed teachers, and family conversations far worse than any courtroom.

It produced young people with extraordinary abilities at a volatile age, some of whom learned from their mistakes and some of whom sharpened them into careers.

Other parents hesitate because it is one of the few schools where “lab accident” might mean a robot uprising, a time anomaly, or a student turning invisible during midterms.

Faculty training now includes emergency protocols for metahuman events, experimental equipment failures, unauthorized drones, alien artifacts, and students attempting to “borrow” school technology for heroic purposes. The school handbook has been revised several times, and now contains several rules that seem absurdly specific unless one knows the history.

Despite everything, Nathaniel Nova continues to produce remarkable students. Its alumni include engineers, inventors, astronauts, medical researchers, software pioneers, and a small but notable number of masked adventurers.

== The New Supernova Squadron ==

[[Supernova Squadron]] is still active, though the current team has an entirely new roster of teenage heroes. The original members have graduated, moved on, gone to college, joined other organizations, retired from heroics, or become the subject of whispered freshman legends.

The new Squadron carries the name forward under different circumstances. They are operating in a school that already knows what can happen when teenage geniuses become costumed heroes. That gives them certain advantages. They have legends to learn from, mistakes to avoid, and, in some cases, hidden resources left behind by their predecessors.

It also gives them a burden. Everyone expects the new Supernova Squadron to either live up to the old team’s heroism or repeat its worst mistakes. In a high school, those expectations can be almost as dangerous as supervillains.

== Rumors Of U-235 ==

There are persistent rumors that Nathaniel Nova High School is now home to a new group of teenage supervillains calling themselves '''U-235'''. The name has appeared in graffiti, encrypted messages, hacked school screens, altered lab files, and anonymous posts on student networks.

No one has publicly confirmed the group’s membership or goals. Some believe U-235 is a prank, an underground science club, or a deliberate attempt to imitate Rock n' Roll’s notoriety. Others suspect something more serious: a new generation of young villains, more secretive and more dangerous than their predecessors.

The name itself worries faculty and outside observers. At a school full of brilliant young scientists, a villain group named after a fissile isotope is not the sort of thing anyone wants to dismiss casually.

== Reputation ==

Nathaniel Nova High School is famous for excellence, ambition, and extremely complicated extracurricular activity. It is the kind of school where a student might win a national science prize in the morning, stop a rampaging experiment in the afternoon, and still be expected to finish calculus homework by Monday.
