I just keep showing up for the right ones.” <br>— Nomad </div> Nomad is the alias used by Kaz Dyson, an interstellar pilot, smuggler, and reluctant revolutionary affiliated with the Liberators. Known for his charm, opportunism, and refusal to commit to anything he cannot escape from, Kaz has nevertheless become one of the movement’s most dependable operatives. He denies this whenever possible. == Background == Kaz Dyson began his career as a legitimate cargo pilot within the vast structure of the Karnak Empire. Like many, he believed the system worked well enough to leave alone. Experience corrected that assumption. Repeated encounters with corruption, exploitation, and the casual cruelty of the imperial elite pushed Kaz out of legitimate work and into smuggling. What began as self-preservation gradually shifted into something more complicated, as he found himself moving supplies, people, and information for those who had no other options. Eventually, he was caught. Kaz was imprisoned in a Karnak penal colony, where he would likely have remained if not for an intervention by the Liberators, who liberated the facility as part of a broader operation. Kaz joined them shortly afterward. He insists it was temporary. == The Liberators == Within the Liberators, Nomad serves as pilot, scout, and occasional field leader. His knowledge of imperial systems, trade routes, and black-market networks makes him invaluable in both planning and execution. Despite his tendency to complain, negotiate, and threaten to leave at inconvenient moments, Kaz has never actually deserted the team, even during high-risk operations. He was particularly instrumental during the assault on the Karnak homeworld, where his flying and improvisation helped turn a chaotic engagement into a workable plan. == The Grasp == Kaz’s right hand is bonded to an alien symbiote known as the Grasp. The organism functions as both biological augmentation and independent intelligence, granting Kaz low-level psionic abilities and enhanced sensory perception. The Grasp is not passive. It observes, reacts, and occasionally disagrees. Their relationship is functional, if not entirely comfortable. == Skills == Kaz Dyson is defined more by experience than formal training. * Expert starship pilot * Skilled negotiator and con artist * Experienced smuggler and navigator * Competent combatant, especially with energy weapons * Natural leadership instincts He succeeds as often through personality as through planning. == Technology == Kaz has no fixed arsenal. * Uses whatever weapons are available * Known to borrow, steal, or improvise equipment * Familiar with a wide range of alien and human technologies If it works, he keeps it. If it does not, he finds something that does. == Personality == Kaz Dyson is cynical, quick-witted, and openly self-interested, at least on the surface. He presents himself as someone motivated by profit, survival, and convenience, and he rarely contradicts that impression. The problem is that his actions do. Time and again, he chooses the harder path when it matters, usually while complaining about it. Beneath the sarcasm and evasiveness is someone who has seen enough to understand what is at stake, even if he refuses to talk about it directly. == Reputation == Among the Liberators, Nomad is regarded as both indispensable and infuriating. He questions plans, argues with leadership, and negotiates everything, but when the situation collapses, he is often the one holding it together. Among the Karnak authorities, he is classified as a persistent and highly mobile problem. == Legacy == Nomad represents a particular kind of hero common in the outer systems: someone who never set out to change anything, but could not ignore what he saw once he understood it. He continues to operate on the margins, balancing survival, loyalty, and a set of principles he prefers not to name. He calls himself a drifter. No one who knows him believes it. </div> CCNav
