Granted immense strength, command over storms, and near-divine resilience, Petersen became consumed by apocalyptic madness, believing himself destined to usher in a new age through destruction and catastrophe. To Ragnarok, civilization itself is diseased. Only ruin can purify it. == Early Life == Before his transformation, Gunnar Petersen was a respected Norwegian archaeologist specializing in Norse mythology, Viking-era cultures, and pre-Christian Scandinavian religious practices. Brilliant, driven, and deeply fascinated by mythological history, Petersen spent years pursuing rumors of lost relics connected to the ancient gods. Unlike many academics, Gunnar genuinely believed myths preserved fragments of historical truth. Eventually, he found something that proved him horrifyingly correct. == Discovery Of The Hammer == While excavating a remote archaeological site in northern Scandinavia, Petersen uncovered an ancient hammer hidden within a buried ritual chamber. The artifact appeared impossibly old yet completely untouched by time. Legends surrounding the weapon claimed it once belonged to a forgotten god or divine champion associated with vengeance, storms, and the coming apocalypse. The warnings should have been enough. Petersen touched it anyway. The moment he did, the artifact bonded to him completely. == The Curse == The hammer granted Petersen vast supernatural power almost instantly: * immense physical strength * superhuman durability * command over storms and lightning * mystical resilience But the weapon carried more than power. It carried memory. Fragments of ancient rage, divine violence, and apocalyptic prophecy flooded Petersen’s mind, gradually eroding his sanity. He became convinced that he had been chosen to bring about a modern Ragnarok — the destruction of the corrupt world so that something stronger could emerge afterward. Whether these visions represent genuine supernatural prophecy or madness amplified by mystical forces remains unclear. The results, however, are very real. == Rise Of Ragnarok == Adopting the name Ragnarok, Petersen embarked upon a violent campaign of destruction targeting cities, industrial centers, governments, and symbols of modern civilization. Wherever Ragnarok appears, devastation follows: * unnatural storms * shattered buildings * lightning-struck battlefields * collapsed infrastructure His battles with heroes frequently resemble natural disasters more than conventional superhuman conflicts. Particularly when he loses his temper. == Powers == Ragnarok possesses tremendous mystical and physical power. His abilities include: * Vast superhuman strength * Extreme durability and stamina * Near-immunity to physical injury * Storm and lightning manipulation * Weather control * Mystically enhanced combat ability His enchanted hammer dramatically amplifies these abilities and appears partially sentient or spiritually linked to its wielder. Some occult scholars believe the weapon itself may be the true source of Ragnarok’s madness. Others suspect it merely awakened what was already inside Gunnar Petersen. == The Hammer == Ragnarok’s hammer is an ancient mystical artifact of immense destructive potential. The weapon grants: * Weather manipulation * Devastating impact force * Lightning-channeling capability * Mystical durability * Enhanced connection to ancient supernatural forces The hammer also appears capable of influencing the thoughts and emotional state of its wielder over prolonged periods. Separating Petersen from the artifact has proven extraordinarily difficult. Keeping him separated from it has proven almost impossible. == Skills == Even before his transformation, Gunnar Petersen possessed considerable expertise in: * Archaeology * Ancient languages and mythology * Norse history * Survival and field exploration Following his empowerment, he also became an extraordinarily dangerous warhammer combatant. Ragnarok fights with brutal precision, wielding the hammer less like a blunt instrument and more like an extension of his own body. == Personality == Ragnarok is furious, unstable, apocalyptic, and consumed by grandiose visions of destruction and rebirth. The compassionate scholar Gunnar Petersen once was still exists somewhere beneath the madness, but the hammer’s influence has buried him beneath rage, prophecy, and violence. At times Ragnarok speaks like a religious zealot. At others, like a grieving man who believes civilization betrayed something sacred and ancient. Though destructive, he does not see himself as evil. In his mind, he is cleansing the world through catastrophe so that something stronger may eventually rise from the ruins. This conviction makes him terrifyingly difficult to reason with. == Legacy == Ragnarok became one of the major mystical powerhouse villains of the modern era and a recurring enemy of heroes such as Kodiak. His stories blended Norse mythology, cursed artifacts, storm-driven destruction, and tragic madness into a classic “fallen god-warrior” archetype. Because Gunnar Petersen searched for the power of ancient gods. And unfortunately for everyone else... he found it. </div> CCNav
