'''Scuz''' is the criminal identity of '''Bert Limberger''', a former chemical-company executive transformed into a living mass of corrosive toxic sludge after being thrown into a vat of industrial waste by gangsters. No longer entirely human, Scuz became a shapeless, poisonous, foul-smelling creature driven by resentment, opportunism, and a surprisingly strong instinct for leadership.

He later gathered other grotesque urban outcasts into [[Crucible:The Vermin|the Vermin]], proudly promoting them as the world’s most disgusting super-team.

Nobody has really challenged the claim.

== Early Life ==

Before his transformation, Bert Limberger was a successful but corrupt executive in the chemical industry. Polished, ambitious, and morally flexible, Limberger built his career through bribery, illegal dumping, regulatory evasion, and quiet arrangements with organized crime.

He understood the business of waste.

He simply never expected to become part of it.

Limberger’s dealings eventually angered the wrong gangsters. Whether he cheated them, threatened them, or simply knew too much remains unclear. Whatever the reason, they disposed of him in the most appropriate way imaginable:

they threw him into a vat of toxic chemical sludge.

== Transformation ==

The toxic waste should have killed Limberger outright.

Instead, the chemical mixture dissolved, mutated, and reconstituted his body into a semi-liquid mass of corrosive slime. His flesh became unstable, acidic, and poisonous. His human shape survived only as a loose suggestion, something he could maintain with effort when he wished to appear even vaguely person-shaped.

The transformation left him revolting to nearly every human sense.

Scuz drips constantly.

He leaves stains wherever he goes.

And witnesses describe his odor as a rancid chemical rot that lingers long after he has departed.

Limberger, being Limberger, eventually decided to make the best of it.

== The Vermin ==

Realizing that society would never again accept him, Scuz turned to the sewers, dumps, abandoned factories, and industrial ruins beneath and around the city. There he found others who had been discarded, mutated, alienated, or simply too repulsive for ordinary criminal society.

He recruited them.

Under his leadership, [[Crucible:The Vermin|the Vermin]] became a bizarre criminal team united less by ideology than by shared grotesquerie and mutual resentment. Members such as [[Crucible:Roach|Roach]] and [[Crucible:Ratso|Ratso]] found in Scuz a leader willing to embrace filth, decay, and social rejection as a badge of honor.

Scuz took pride in the group’s reputation.

If the world wanted monsters, he would organize them.

== Powers ==

Scuz’s transformed body grants him several dangerous abilities.

His powers include:

* Semi-liquid shapeshifting
* Corrosive acid secretion
* Toxic body chemistry
* Resistance to physical injury
* Ability to squeeze through cracks, drains, and narrow spaces
* Immunity or resistance to many poisons and chemicals

His acidic secretions can burn through many materials, and physical contact with him can be hazardous or lethal depending on exposure.

Capturing Scuz is difficult because he can flatten, ooze, and seep through openings that would stop ordinary criminals.

Cleaning up afterward is worse.

== Skills ==

Though physically transformed into a chemical horror, Limberger retained much of his executive cunning.

His skills include:

* Leadership and organization
* Criminal negotiation
* Industrial knowledge
* Chemical-industry expertise
* Dirty business practices
* Team coordination

Among the Vermin, Scuz often serves as planner, spokesman, and reluctant adult in the room.

Which says a lot about the room.

== Personality ==

Scuz is crude, bitter, sarcastic, and opportunistic, but he is not stupid. Beneath the dripping slime remains the mind of a corporate executive who understands hierarchy, motivation, profit, and leverage.

He knows how to manage people.

Even disgusting people.

His transformation did not create his moral corruption so much as make it visible. Limberger was already toxic before the accident; afterward, the metaphor simply became literal.

At the same time, Scuz shows a certain rough loyalty toward the Vermin. He may insult them constantly, but he understands what it means to be rejected by the surface world. In his own foul way, he has given them a community.

A very smelly community.

== Legacy ==

Scuz became one of the strangest recurring villains of the modern era and the defining leader of [[Crucible:The Vermin|the Vermin]]. His stories blend chemical horror, sewer-level crime, black comedy, corporate corruption, and body-mutating super-science into a memorably repulsive rogue.

Because Bert Limberger spent his life dumping poison into the world.

Eventually, the world dumped him back.
