Veronique Shaw spent years struggling through the lower tiers of the entertainment industry as an actress of moderate talent and considerable ambition. Though undeniably charismatic and attractive, she lacked either the discipline or the luck necessary to become a major star.

As her career stalled, Shaw drifted increasingly toward substance abuse, self-destructive relationships, and criminal behavior connected to the illegal drug scene.

By the time she first encountered the Master, Veronique was serving prison time and widely regarded as another washed-up Hollywood casualty.

The Master saw potential instead.
