Alys Dance’s childhood was unlike anything resembling ordinary family life. Her father, Dr. Josiah Dance, regarded her not simply as his daughter, but as the most important long-term project of his career. From earliest childhood, Alys was surrounded by tutors, trainers, scientists, combat instructors, and psychological conditioning programs selected personally by the Master.

She was taught languages, strategy, etiquette, anatomy, infiltration methods, and combat theory before most children were allowed to cross a street alone. Praise was rare. Failure was studied, corrected, and never forgotten.
