CounterForce

[edit]

"Maximum safety. Maximum security. Maximum response."

CounterForce is the world’s leading private metahuman security and intervention firm, specializing in the containment, apprehension, transport, and detention of superhuman threats. Positioned somewhere between a military contractor, law-enforcement agency, and corporate superhero organization, CounterForce provides governments, corporations, and international organizations with rapid-response capabilities specifically designed to confront metahuman crises.

In an era where rogue superhumans, advanced battle armor, artificial intelligences, and enhanced terrorists can destabilize entire cities within hours, CounterForce markets itself as a practical solution to problems traditional institutions are no longer equipped to handle.

Its critics call it the privatization of superheroics.

Its supporters call it necessary.

History

[edit]

CounterForce emerged during the Modern Age amid growing international concern over the escalating scale of metahuman threats. Governments increasingly found themselves overwhelmed by crises involving supervillains, enhanced mercenaries, bio-engineered terrorists, rogue psionics, and destructive vigilantes operating beyond conventional law enforcement capabilities.

While organizations such as PHASE II remained powerful, their resources were limited and often constrained by politics, jurisdictional disputes, or international treaties. CounterForce was founded specifically to fill the widening gap between public institutions and the realities of superhuman conflict.

Backed by enormous private investment and political influence, the company rapidly expanded into a multinational security enterprise with operations across several continents.

Mission

[edit]

CounterForce specializes in the protection of civilians and infrastructure against metahuman threats. Its operations include:

  • Superhuman apprehension
  • High-risk intervention
  • VIP protection
  • Metahuman containment
  • Crisis response
  • Tactical security operations
  • Enhanced prisoner transport
  • Counter-terrorism operations involving superhumans

The company’s central expertise lies in confronting adversaries too dangerous for conventional military or police forces. CounterForce teams are trained specifically to engage opponents possessing superhuman abilities, advanced technologies, or unconventional powers.

Unlike many government agencies, CounterForce is capable of deploying internationally with comparatively few bureaucratic delays, making it especially attractive to private clients and smaller nations lacking their own metahuman infrastructure.

StrikeTeams

[edit]

CounterForce operates through highly trained tactical units known as StrikeTeams. These units typically consist of five to ten metahuman operatives supported by security troopers, analysts, technicians, medics, and logistical personnel.

Each StrikeTeam is assembled to provide complementary abilities and tactical flexibility, allowing the teams to respond to a wide range of threats including armored supercriminals, psychic incidents, alien infiltrators, and catastrophic metahuman battles.

The company’s flagship unit, CounterForce Seattle, is based in Seattle, Washington and serves as the public face of the organization’s operational capabilities.

Additional major operational centers are located in:

  • Chicago, Illinois
  • London, England
  • Singapore
  • Covenant City, Isola

CounterForce maintains numerous smaller facilities, detention centers, and rapid-response stations worldwide.

Technology

[edit]

CounterForce develops and deploys advanced technologies specifically engineered to confront metahuman threats. Their equipment includes reinforced combat armor, energy-dampening restraints, adaptive containment fields, anti-teleportation systems, psionic shielding, non-lethal suppression weaponry, and tactical support drones.

The company invests heavily in research and development, frequently partnering with private laboratories and defense contractors to remain ahead of emerging threats.

Many of its systems are classified, though industry analysts consider CounterForce one of the most technologically sophisticated private security organizations on Earth.

Leadership

[edit]

CounterForce’s CEO and public spokesperson is former United States Senator Maccabee O’Keefe, a charismatic and controversial political figure who helped shape modern metahuman legislation before entering the private sector.

O’Keefe presents CounterForce as a pragmatic answer to a dangerous world, arguing that enhanced threats require specialized responses unconstrained by political paralysis. Under his leadership, the company has cultivated a carefully managed public image emphasizing professionalism, heroism, and accountability.

Critics, however, accuse O’Keefe of transforming superhuman conflict into a profitable industry.

Reputation

[edit]

Public opinion regarding CounterForce remains sharply divided.

To supporters, the organization represents efficiency, expertise, and protection in a world where traditional institutions often fail against metahuman dangers. Cities and corporations that have benefited from CounterForce interventions frequently praise the company’s rapid deployment capabilities and willingness to confront threats others avoid.

To opponents, CounterForce represents something far more troubling: the emergence of corporate-controlled superhuman force operating beyond democratic oversight. Civil liberties groups, rival heroes, and some government officials fear the long-term consequences of allowing private corporations to monopolize metahuman security.

Regardless of opinion, one reality is undeniable: When a superhuman crisis erupts, CounterForce is usually already on its way.
