Peoples

The peoples of Earth-11717 encompass far more than the ordinary nations and ethnic groups of Earth. Humanity itself exists in countless variations shaped by evolution, mutation, alien influence, dimensional exposure, cybernetics, and superhuman transformation.

Alongside the ordinary peoples of Earth stand alien civilizations, engineered beings, uplifted species, artificial intelligences, dimensional entities, and posthuman offshoots that challenge the very definition of what it means to be “human.”

Some peoples coexist peacefully.

Others are locked in ancient rivalries, wars, or uneasy alliances stretching across worlds and centuries.

The arrival of extraterrestrial civilizations during the Silver and Bronze Ages forever transformed humanity’s understanding of itself. Earth was not unique. Nor was humanity necessarily the dominant form of intelligent life in the universe.

In many ways, Earth became important precisely because it was so unusual: a world where mutation, superhumanity, mysticism, alien contact, and uncontrolled scientific experimentation intersected constantly.

The result is a world populated by extraordinary diversity.

Humanity

Baseline humanity remains the dominant population of Earth. The nations, cultures, and ethnicities of Earth continue to shape politics, economics, and daily life much as they always have.

However, decades of superhuman activity, alien contact, and advanced technology have increasingly blurred the boundaries between “normal” humanity and something more.

Humanity has also spread beyond Earth into orbital colonies, deep-space settlements, and alien civilizations, adapting in countless ways to new environments and cultures.

Parahumans

Parahumans — sometimes called mutants — are humans born with genetic abnormalities granting superhuman abilities.

Parahuman abilities vary enormously and may include enhanced strength, psychic powers, elemental manipulation, physical mutation, or stranger phenomena still. Some parahumans appear outwardly human, while others possess dramatic physical differences that visibly separate them from ordinary humanity.

The existence of parahumans has profoundly shaped modern history. Many of Earth’s greatest heroes and villains are parahumans, and public attitudes toward them range from admiration to fear and outright hatred.

In some futures, parahumans are predicted to become the next stage of human evolution.

Annelids

The Annelids are a strange and highly intelligent species descended from genetically modified annelid stock originally engineered for hostile-environment labor and industrial operations.

Over generations, the Annelids evolved into a fully sapient people with their own culture, social structures, and technological traditions. Though physically alien by human standards, many Annelids possess highly sophisticated emotional and intellectual lives.

Annelid society places enormous importance on collective memory, labor, survival, and social obligation. Their civilizations often appear austere or unsettling to humans, though many Annelids consider human behavior irrational and dangerously impulsive in return.

Because of their appearance and origins, Annelids frequently face prejudice throughout human-controlled space.

Alien Peoples

Humanity shares the galaxy with countless extraterrestrial civilizations, ranging from ancient starfaring empires to isolated frontier cultures.

Relations between Earth and alien civilizations vary enormously. Some species maintain diplomatic or commercial ties with humanity, while others remain hostile or openly expansionist.

Cosmic Threats

Not all intelligent beings encountered by humanity are civilizations in the ordinary sense. Some represent existential dangers to entire worlds.

A Changing Species

As humanity expands further into the galaxy, distinctions between species, ethnicity, mutation, and posthumanity continue to blur. Interstellar migration, alien hybridization, cybernetic enhancement, and superhuman evolution increasingly complicate old ideas of identity.

Earth is no longer merely a human world.

It is becoming something larger, stranger, and far more diverse than humanity ever imagined.
