Crucible:Gate of Horn and Ivory

The Probability Gate was created in an Andrews International project by two scientists, a husband and wife team named Leon and Dana Janowitz, who were working with a way to create a probability field that would change physical laws within its boundaries and make unlikely events more likely. However, the field they discovered was actually a sort of membrane between Crucible Earth and any number of 'probability streams', in effect, alternative realities. The Janowitzes called it a Probability Gate. Travelers could pass from their own reality into a world where, for example, the South won the Civil War, or where intelligent cats were the dominant species on Earth. Time and space could be traversed as easily as walking across a room. Soon after creating the Gate, the Janowitzes entered the gate on an exploration mission and failed to return.

The Gauntlet saw the promise and the dangers in such a device and had the Gate moved to the laboratories under Watchstar Mansion, where it is still located. Early on, the Gate was hijacked by Black Sunday, who used it to travel back to World War II and accidentally help the Nazis win. The third Watchstar team followed and put history right. Later, the Gate was used to travel to a dimension where huge intelligent mosquitoes had killed most of life on Earth.

The superhero Jade is actually an alternate universe counterpart of Earth-11717's Jade, who emerged from the Gate after her own Watchstar team was wiped out by Channel. She was never able to return to her home reality due to the interdimensional storm stirred up by the passage of The Terror.

Mobius has used the Gate to mount exploration missions into various probabilities.

Currently, due to its great potential for danger, the Gate sits deactivated.
