The Star Squadron was a band of heroes who fought for galactic justice during the Silver Age. They were based on the planet Izar, in a remote sector of the galaxy. Their spacecraft, the Sweet Petunia, was a familiar and welcome sight to those in need of assistance from space outlaws and interplanetary villains of all kinds.

- Space Ace (Kent Rhodes): Kent Rhodes was an Earthman exiled far from his homeworld. He formed and led the Star Squadron.
- Varda: A brave Izarian warrior and Space Ace's wife.
- Algol-7: Algol-7 was a the last Tarqian mental wizard, skilled in the psi powers of his people. His people suffered terribly in servitude to the Hive.
- Sprocket: originally a servitor-bot in the mechanical empire of the Hive, Sprocket proved to be a loyal ally in the battle against his former masters.
- Gekko: A former wanderer and merchant who joined the fight against injustice.
The Star Squadron became a force for justice and peace among the worlds of the galactic rim and their fame spread far and wide.
