Doc Croc

Background

The true identity of the mysterious physician known only as Doc Croc remains unknown. Among criminals, vigilantes, mercenaries, and costumed supervillains, however, his reputation is legendary. When someone is injured and cannot risk going to a hospital, they call Doc Croc.

Sometimes.

Other times, he simply arrives.

Operating from hidden clinics, abandoned buildings, temporary surgical suites, and locations nobody can ever seem to find twice, Doc Croc has become a whispered figure of urban mythology throughout the underworld. Gunshot wounds, laser burns, alien parasites, dimensional infections, cursed artifacts, cybernetic trauma, superhuman physiology — Doc Croc treats them all with calm professionalism and apparent delight.

No patient is ever turned away.

He accepts almost any form of payment except checks. Cash is common, but favors, information, artifacts, stolen technology, or future considerations are equally acceptable. Many criminals quietly owe him debts, though few are eager to discuss the arrangement.

His bedside manner is unsettlingly cheerful, even while performing horrifying emergency surgery in abandoned warehouses at three in the morning.

Powers And Abilities

Doc Croc is an extraordinarily skilled physician and surgeon with medical knowledge far beyond what should reasonably be possible. He appears equally comfortable treating ordinary injuries, exotic toxins, superhuman mutations, and bizarre extraterrestrial conditions.

Some evidence suggests that Doc Croc may possess teleportation abilities or access to unusual transportation methods. He has repeatedly appeared across vast distances in impossibly short periods of time, often arriving before anyone could realistically have contacted him.

His speech, mannerisms, and medical terminology often suggest a formal education dating back to the late nineteenth century.

Personality

Doc Croc genuinely appears to enjoy medicine, surgery, and helping people survive catastrophic injuries. He is eccentric, theatrical, and faintly unnerving, but rarely malicious.

He introduces himself with the phrase:

"Like crocodile, but not spelt that way."

Notes

Doc Croc occupies a strange niche within the Crucible Universe: neither hero nor villain, but an underworld constant respected by both sides of the law. Even many superheroes quietly know his reputation, though few are comfortable admitting it.
