Real Name: Dr. Duncan Black

Background: Duncan Black was a Scottish physicist and collaborator of Dr. Nathaniel Nova during the Bronze Age. Black was a pioneer in the physics of sound and held scores of patents related to his many discoveries in the field. When his wife was killed, he built a suit that incorporated many of his sonic devices and fought crime as the superhero Soundwave. He eventually discovered that Michael Sargon was ultimately responsible for his wife's death, and so with Dr Nova he formed a super-team called the Sentries to battle Sargon.

After the Sentries broke up, Soundwave was later killed in a mysterious accident in his lab.

Known Relatives: Dr. Patrick Black, son; Dr. Declan Black, son.

Skills: Black was a brilliant physicist who specialized in sound studies. He turned out to be an excellent leader as well.

Tech: Black wore a 'sonic suit' of his own design that incorporated offensive and defensive sonic systems.
