In a time of troubles, of crime and terror, they were the heroes who did what needed doing. Outlaws and outcasts, they answered to a higher law: justice, dispensed by weapons and fists.
The Strong Persuaders were a vigilante group during a period of high crime in New York. They were noted for their aggressive, no-holds-barred approach to crimefighting. Their reign of terror over the underworld lasted until the team was broken up in South America in a battle against the South American kingpin Tarantula.

The core membership of the Strong Persuaders consisted of the following:
- Peacemaker (Paul Carter): a district attorney and former NUC moonlighting as a vigilante.
- Manhunter (Cyrus Kempf): an ex-special operator and electronics expert
- Vengeance (Garrett Logan): victim of a chemical accident with super abilities
- Striker (Danny Blaze): seeker of revenge against the world
- Maverick (Jill Thorn): crimefighter and daughter of New York's major crime boss
Later, they were joined in their war on crime by the former Russian assassin called the Viper.
