Crucible:Black Iron

PHASE II maintains a metahuman detention facility at upstate Ilium, New York, officially known as Black Iron Detention Facility, but also known as Stronghold East.

Like other PHASE II detainment facilities, the prison is capable of securely detaining over a thousand metahumans of all types, including those with superhuman strength and energy manipulation capabilities. The prison can even safely constrain metahumans with magical powers. In addition, the prison includes life support facilities for any number of alien environments.

Black Iron is where metahuman criminals sentenced or awaiting trial in the eastern portion of North America are detained. According to PHASE II, the prison is 'escape-proof', but this term is, naturally, used loosely.

Notable metahuman felons currently serving here include Michael Sargon, Bobo the Clown, and the members of Black Sunday.

A similar facility is kept for metahuman criminals in the western and central portion of North America, at Vulture Island, Nevada.
