John Striker was the field leader of Department X, the secret federal unit created to investigate paranormal threats after Washington, D.C. was nearly destroyed by occult forces in the late 1930s.

Striker was already an experienced government agent before his transfer to Department X. His life changed when occultists murdered his family as part of a ritual operation. After that, he devoted himself completely to the investigation and destruction of occult conspiracies.

Personality

[edit]

Striker was disciplined, grim, and almost impossible to intimidate. He was not a mystic and had little patience for theatrical occultism, but he had seen enough horror to know that disbelief was a luxury. He approached paranormal cases like crimes: find the pattern, identify the actors, interrupt the operation, and bring the guilty down.

His grief made him relentless, but not cruel. Striker understood that fear was one of the enemy’s weapons, and he worked hard to keep his team steady when ordinary courage was not enough.

Abilities

[edit]

Striker had no superhuman powers. He was a highly trained investigator, marksman, and field commander. His strengths were discipline, tactical judgment, interrogation, surveillance, and the ability to keep a team functioning under impossible circumstances.

Tactics

[edit]

Striker preferred preparation over improvisation. When dealing with cults or occult entities, he worked to identify the ritual structure, locate the human agents behind it, and disrupt the threat before it reached full manifestation.

He trusted specialists, especially Archibald Cameron and Wing Sun, but made the final field decisions himself.

Legacy

[edit]

John Striker became one of the quiet prototypes for the later government paranormal investigator: neither superhero nor soldier, but a professional standing between the public and forces the public was never meant to know existed.
