== Background == Oswald “Oz” Traynor is a military veteran and longtime associate of Cyrus Kempf, having served alongside him in the same ranger unit during a deeply unpopular war. The two men developed a close professional bond under brutal combat conditions, where Oz distinguished himself through technical expertise, reliability, and calmness under fire. Years after returning to civilian life, Oz’s personal struggles eventually led him into serious trouble. A compulsive gambler with catastrophically bad luck, he accumulated dangerous debts to criminal organizations and found himself marked for execution by the assassin Cheapshot. Oz survived only because Manhunter and Mistral intervened. Grateful for the rescue and seeking some form of redemption, Oz offered his services to The Night Shift as technical support coordinator and field operations specialist. From behind the scenes, he monitors communications, tracks tactical developments, manages electronic surveillance, and provides backup support during the team’s operations. Oz is also a recovering alcoholic, approaching recovery with the same grim determination he applies to everything else: one day at a time.
