== The Corsairs ==

Despite the scale of his crimes, Calhoun served only a relatively short prison sentence. His extraordinary technical abilities made him too valuable for several government agencies to ignore. Eventually, [[Crucible:Enforcer|Enforcer]] arranged for Gizmo to receive a conditional pardon in exchange for service with the government-backed operations team known as [[Crucible:The Corsairs|the Corsairs]].

The arrangement was controversial from the beginning.

Some regarded Calhoun as a rehabilitated asset whose skills could serve legitimate causes. Others believed he simply shifted loyalties whenever it suited his survival or curiosity.

History has generally supported the second interpretation.
