Among the Victory Squadron, the Black Eagle was respected as a capable and dependable ally, though his aristocratic manners and flair for drama sometimes set him apart from more straightforward wartime heroes. To the public, he became one of the more striking figures of the era, a dark-winged archer whose appearance evoked both Revolutionary legend and modern pulp adventure.

Within the Holmes family history, however, Dane was one more link in a chain that had begun long before the war and would outlast the generation that fought it.
