Adrienne Gray is the daughter of the renegade parahuman [[Crucible:Black Sun|Black Sun]] ('''Lucius Gray''', formerly the hero '''Sunbolt''') and the younger sister of [[Crucible:Inferno|Inferno]], a founding member of the first [[Crucible:Watchstar|Watchstar]] team and later a member of '''Star Flight'''.

Despite that lineage, Adrienne did not grow up immersed in heroics or villainy. She was raised by foster parents in Southern California, where she lived a relatively normal life and pursued her ambition of becoming a championship surfer.

Her powers manifested during her teenage years, marking her as a **parahuman (mutant)** and drawing her into a world she had only known at a distance.
