Possessing cybernetic capabilities comparable to Cobra’s but stripped of restraint, loyalty, or morality, Viper is regarded as one of the deadliest enhanced operatives on Earth and the single greatest personal enemy of [[Crucible:Cobra|Cobra]].

He is the failure PHASE II tried to erase.

== Origin ==

Marcus Vale was one of PHASE II’s most effective covert operatives—an infiltration specialist with exceptional combat instincts and an alarming talent for psychological warfare.

When Drew Sheffield was critically injured during a catastrophic mission failure, PHASE II initiated the experimental '''COBRA''' cybernetics program in an attempt to create a next-generation battlefield operative.

Officially, only one subject survived the augmentation process.

That was a lie.

Vale survived as well.

But unlike Sheffield, the integration process altered him psychologically as much as physically. The experimental cybernetics amplified aggression, emotional detachment, and predatory behavior patterns already present beneath the surface.

PHASE II determined Vale was too unstable to control.

Recall and shutdown orders were issued immediately.

The retrieval team disappeared without explanation.

Months later, classified weapons shipments began vanishing across Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia. Entire covert operations collapsed overnight. Intelligence personnel were found dead under impossible circumstances.

The COBRA initiative was originally intended to create two operatives:

Cobra and Viper.

Two perfectly coordinated cybernetic soldiers capable of functioning as living tactical weapons.

Instead, the project produced enemies.

Where Cobra believes power requires discipline, Viper believes discipline is merely another form of weakness. He sees governments, laws, and moral systems as obsolete structures waiting to be replaced by superior individuals willing to seize control.

To Viper, Cobra is not merely an enemy.

He is proof that Marcus Vale could have become something better.

That is why Viper hates him.

Over time, Viper assembled a network of rogue operatives, assassins, mercenaries, cybernetic smugglers, and former intelligence agents known as the '''Black Mambas'''.
