The Sisterhood of the White Flame is a clandestine and elite order of warrior women dedicated to the destruction of demons and other spiritual corruptions. Founded in the 13th century, during the era of the Great Purges in Central Asia, the Sisterhood has endured as a hidden force waging an eternal, thankless war in the shadows of human history.
Operating from a hidden monastery complex high in the Himalayas, the Sisterhood serves as both a sanctuary and a crucible. Recruits come from all nations, all backgrounds—each woman marked by a personal encounter with evil, and a refusal to let it win.
Once initiated, a Sister walks a path of fire, steel, and sacrifice.
Origins and History
The Sisterhood traces its origin to Princess Rashkali of Samarkand, a Mongol-era mystic and warrior who reputedly survived possession by a fire demon, only to burn it out from within. She founded the first cadre of Flame Sisters in 1274, gathering other women from across the Silk Road who had survived supernatural horrors.
Over the centuries, the Sisterhood has remained nominally neutral in all human conflicts, intervening only when infernal forces are unleashed or threaten to corrupt the mortal world. From exorcising Nazi occultists during WWII, to combating the Ash Brethren in Ethiopia, to thwarting techno-demons in the digital underworld, the White Flame burns wherever darkness encroaches.
The Sisterhood was nearly destroyed during the Red Lotus Betrayal in the 1600s, when one of its own turned demon and led a schism known as the Blighted Hand. The surviving Sisters rebuilt, harder and purer, swearing a new oath: “May the Flame consume me before the dark does.”
Training and Capabilities
Every Sister undergoes a five-year training period in the Monastery of the White Flame—cut off from the outside world, living under a vow of silence, meditation, and rigorous combat discipline. Each woman is trained to confront demonic threats physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Core Disciplines:
- Martial Mastery: Precision in unarmed combat, joint locks, pressure points, and redirection styles.
- Weapons Expertise: Mastery of both ancient weapons (naginata, kris, rope-darts) and modern adaptations (silver-etched firearms, rune-etched blades).
- Demonology: Study of demonic hierarchies, sigil-crafting, ward rituals, exorcism chants, and arcane glyphs.
- Astral Resistance: Mental disciplines to guard the soul, resist possession, and fight on the spiritual plane.
Each Sister also forges her Flamebrand, a personalized weapon that manifests during her final trial and is said to burn hotter against corruption.
Powers & Techniques
While not inherently superhuman, some elite Sisters develop rare gifts through intense training, mystical focus, or traumatic spiritual awakenings. These include:
- The White Flame – An inner spiritual fire that may erupt during times of great need, burning through illusions, curses, or even banishing lesser demons outright.
- Echo-Step – The ability to blur movement, leaving an afterimage that confuses physical and astral foes.
- Flame Tongue – A chant-like speech that reveals truth and sears lies, used in interrogations or exorcisms.
Current Leadership
Fury – The current High Flame of the Sisterhood. Fury is a third-generation Sister and known as the Storm Torch, having fought through thirty-three demon incursions and banished a Demonic Titan singlehandedly. Stern, pragmatic, and terrifyingly precise, she carries the scorched scars of her battle with the demon Jharzol—scars she refuses to heal as a reminder.
She is known to say: “Mercy is for the living. Flame is for the damned.”
Notable Members (Past & Present)
- Manna – A mystic and battlefield healer, who gave her life during the Hellmouth Incident in Manila, closing the gate from within.
- Mantra – A rebellious Sister turned wanderer. Now an independent exorcist operating across Europe. Still wears her Flamebrand dagger.
- Black Orchid – A hybrid demon-slayer with infernal ancestry. Her redemption arc began in the Sisterhood. Known for her silence and compassion.
- Ashlin “Sting” Kaul – The first openly cyber-augmented Sister. Walks between mysticism and machinery. Rumored to be developing Flamebrand drones.
Global Presence
Though the monastery remains hidden, the Sisterhood maintains “Ash Posts”—safehouses, shrines, and ritual zones in major cities, often disguised as martial arts dojos, urban gardens, or women’s shelters.
When a Sister is in the field, she is a lone ember of righteousness—but when three or more convene, it is said even hell takes notice.
Symbolism
- The White Flame is their sigil and their truth: a fire that illuminates but does not consume—except when it must.
- Each Sister bears a white flame tattoo, always earned, never given, appearing only after their first personal triumph over a true demonic threat.

The Sisterhood has a long history of conflict with:
- The Blighted Hand – Rogue former Sisters now fully demonic.
- The Demon Prince Vorneth – Imprisoned beneath the Monastery’s lowest chamber. Still whispers.
- The Crimson Choir – Cult of possessed opera singers who spread madness through sound.
- The Ash Brethren – Ash-demons who wear human skin like ash coats and speak in mirror languages.
