Beyond:Arms and Equipment
Arms And Equipment
[edit]You are not your backpack.
Characters in Beyond do not track detailed inventory. A competent character is assumed to have the tools and ordinary equipment needed for their Careers.
If a Technician needs a wrench, they have one. If a Soldier needs ordinary field gear, they have it. If a Scientist needs common instruments, they are available.
Do not punish players for failing to manage imaginary shopping lists.
Assumed Equipment
[edit]If a character would reasonably have an item, they have it.
Routine equipment includes tools of the trade, personal gear, standard weapons, safety equipment, comms, basic supplies, and other ordinary items.
When To Roll
[edit]Roll only when an item is rare, expensive, restricted, unusual, or dramatically important.
If there is disagreement about whether an item is reasonable, make an Access Roll.
Access Rolls
[edit]When an item is plausible but uncertain, roll:
2d6 + Attribute + Career
Use the normal Target Numbers:
- 9+ Routine
- 12+ Difficult
- 15+ Extreme
On success, the character has or can reasonably access the item.
Wealth Rolls
[edit]If an item is costly, restricted, or beyond ordinary gear, use Wealth.
Roll:
2d6 + Wealth
Cost Levels:
- Routine: 9+
- Expensive: 12+
- Very Expensive: 15+
Routine items usually do not reduce Wealth. Expensive items may reduce Wealth by 1. Very Expensive items may reduce Wealth by 2.

Prepared For The Job
[edit]At the beginning of a mission, the crew is assumed to have brought everything a competent team would reasonably need.
Players may each name one important item they made sure to bring. If it is reasonable, they have it.
