“Governments talk about principles. Soldiers deal with reality.”
The Colonel

The Colonel is the mercenary identity of Daniel Creegan, a legendary American combat veteran who transformed from decorated soldier into one of the most feared private military commanders of the modern era. Founder and longtime leader of 00 Company — originally formed under the name SCAR — Creegan built an elite mercenary force capable of battling superhumans, destabilizing governments, and conducting military operations beyond the reach of conventional armies.

Unlike flamboyant conquerors or unstable terrorists, the Colonel represents something colder and more believable:

a man who concluded that war itself is the only honest system humanity has ever created.

Military Career

[edit]

Daniel Creegan emerged from the American military establishment as one of the most respected and highly decorated combat officers of his generation. Over decades of warfare, covert operations, and international conflict, Creegan built a reputation for tactical brilliance, operational discipline, and ruthless battlefield effectiveness.

Soldiers trusted him.

Governments used him.

Enemies feared him.

Creegan excelled particularly in irregular warfare, counterinsurgency operations, and high-risk strategic deployments where conventional military doctrine failed. Again and again, he succeeded in situations considered impossible.

At enormous human cost.

Though publicly celebrated as a national hero, Creegan increasingly grew disillusioned with the political structures directing the wars he fought. He watched administrations change, policies shift, and soldiers discarded once they were no longer useful.

Then came the accident.

Betrayal

[edit]

Accounts differ regarding the exact nature of the incident that finally broke Creegan’s loyalty to the United States government.

Some sources describe a classified military operation abandoned for political convenience.

Others suggest bureaucratic negligence that left soldiers dead or crippled.

Still others imply Creegan himself became politically inconvenient after learning information someone wanted buried.

Whatever the truth, the aftermath transformed him permanently.

The decorated patriot who once believed in service and command structure concluded that governments viewed soldiers as expendable assets rather than human beings.

Daniel Creegan stopped serving nations.

And began serving only himself.

Double-Zero Company

[edit]

After leaving official military service, Creegan assembled a handpicked cadre of elite veterans, specialists, assassins, infiltrators, and battlefield operatives into a mercenary organization originally known as SCAR.

Over time, the organization evolved into the feared private military force now called 00 Company.

Unlike ordinary mercenary groups, 00 Company operates with near-military professionalism and strategic sophistication. Its operatives are carefully selected, heavily trained, and capable of engaging not only conventional forces but also superhuman opponents.

The organization has participated in:

  • Regime destabilizations
  • Black operations
  • Corporate warfare
  • Counter-superhuman deployments
  • International assassinations
  • Covert military actions

Under Creegan’s leadership, 00 Company became one of the most effective private armies on Earth.

Possibly one of the most dangerous.

Enemy Of Superhumans

[edit]

Because 00 Company frequently operates in politically volatile regions and clandestine conflicts, the Colonel has repeatedly clashed with superheroes and superhuman organizations.

Unlike many villains, Creegan rarely underestimates superhumans emotionally or ideologically. He studies them tactically instead, treating powers as battlefield variables rather than symbols of destiny or morality.

To him, a flying energy projector is simply another weapons platform.

A dangerous one.

But still killable.

This practical outlook makes him particularly effective against heroes accustomed to facing theatrical villains or unstable masterminds.

The Colonel approaches conflict like war.

Because to him, it always is.

Skills

[edit]

Daniel Creegan is widely regarded as one of the greatest military strategists of the modern era.

His expertise includes:

  • Battlefield command
  • Military strategy
  • Counterinsurgency operations
  • Covert warfare
  • Tactical planning
  • Firearms
  • Leadership
  • Psychological warfare
  • Logistics and operational coordination

Though not superhuman physically, Creegan’s strategic intelligence and combat experience make him extraordinarily dangerous even alongside enhanced opponents.

Many heroes have learned too late that the Colonel is usually three moves ahead before the fight even begins.

Resources And Technology

[edit]

Through 00 Company, the Colonel commands enormous military resources and advanced weaponry, including:

  • Experimental firearms
  • Heavy military hardware
  • Advanced tactical systems
  • Armored vehicles
  • Air support assets
  • Specialized anti-superhuman equipment

Creegan prefers practical military technology over theatrical super-science, though 00 Company occasionally acquires cutting-edge weapons specifically designed to counter metahuman threats.

Everything is selected for efficiency.

Nothing for style.

Personality

[edit]

The Colonel is disciplined, intelligent, cynical, and emotionally controlled. Unlike ideological extremists or megalomaniacal conquerors, Creegan rarely displays open rage or theatrical ambition.

He simply believes the world works exactly the way he says it does.

Governments lie.

Wars never end.

Power belongs to whoever is willing to use it decisively.

Beneath the cold professionalism, however, traces of the idealistic soldier he once was still surface occasionally, particularly in his loyalty toward his own operatives. Creegan may distrust nations completely, but he values competence, sacrifice, and battlefield loyalty intensely.

To 00 Company, he is less employer than commander.

Possibly even father figure.

Which only makes them more dangerous.

Legacy

[edit]

The Colonel became one of the defining military mercenary villains of the Bronze and Modern Ages, blending war fiction, geopolitical cynicism, tactical realism, and paramilitary spectacle into a recurring global antagonist.

Because Daniel Creegan once fought for his country.

Then decided countries were not worth fighting for.
