“I have seen enough miracles to know they still need witnesses.”
— Rose McGee
Background
[edit]Roisin “Rose” McGee emigrated from County Cork, Ireland, to America as a teenager in search of a better life. Settling in Unity City, she opened a modest neighborhood café serving hearty Irish meals, strong coffee, and generous portions under the name Rose’s Cafe.
Her business had been open barely a month when disaster struck.
During a destructive rampage through downtown Unity City by the Fearsome Five, large sections of the neighborhood were devastated, including the block containing Rose’s tiny café. Refusing to abandon her customers or employees, Rose confronted the supervillains herself armed with little more than a frying pan and righteous fury.
Predictably, this did not go well.
Fortunately, the Unity League arrived in time to save Rose, her staff, her customers, and most of the café itself.
Deeply grateful, Rose declared that members of the Unity League would always eat free at her establishment. Before long, she extended the same hospitality to any superhero who walked through the door. Since superheroes tended to be excellent tippers—and occasionally repaired structural damage personally—business flourished.
Over time, Rose’s Cafe became one of the best-known gathering spots for “capes” in Unity City and an informal social center for heroes, reporters, police officers, and civilians alike.
Rose herself became one of the city’s loudest and proudest supporters of the Unity League.
Skills And Personality
[edit]Rose is an outstanding cook known for hearty comfort food, oversized portions, and the ability to feed exhausted superheroes at any hour of the day or night.
She is fiercely warm-hearted, outspoken, stubborn, and entirely unafraid of superhumans, whether heroic or villainous. Rose possesses the sort of fearless personality that can make even cosmic champions feel obligated to finish their vegetables.
Although she rarely seeks trouble, Rose has demonstrated repeatedly that she is far tougher than most people expect.
Notes
[edit]Rose’s Cafe became one of the iconic civilian locations of the Silver Age Unity City setting, serving as a recurring social hub where heroes could briefly step away from battles and disasters to experience something resembling ordinary life.
