Tech is the professional alias of Simon Matthews, one of the most influential scientific minds in modern history and the technological architect behind much of the infrastructure that defines the contemporary superhero age. Though once an active field member of Watchstar, Matthews has long since moved into a strategic and developmental role, shaping events from behind the scenes with inventions that have altered the course of civilization.

Background

Simon Matthews demonstrated extraordinary intelligence from an early age, rapidly advancing beyond conventional education and into independent research. While still a teenager, he developed a practical model for fusion power generation and created a wireless communication protocol that would eventually become the backbone of global digital connectivity, famously named after his childhood toy bear: Bluetooth.

These achievements did more than establish his reputation.

They changed the world.

Conflict With Sargon

Matthews’ work drew the attention of Michael Sargon, who sought to incorporate the young prodigy into his vision of a scientifically governed utopia. Sargon offered Matthews a place of honor within that system.

Matthews refused.

The rejection led to escalation. Sargon attempted to eliminate him using a robotic strike force, a move that might have succeeded had Matthews not come under the protection of Watchstar. The encounter cemented his association with the team and marked the beginning of a long-standing opposition to Sargon’s ambitions.

Watchstar

Recognizing both his capabilities and his need for support, Protector and the Gauntlet brought Matthews into Watchstar as their chief technologist. In this role, he designed and built the systems, vehicles, and support infrastructure that enabled the team to operate at the highest level.

Although he participated in field operations during his early years—particularly as a member of the third team—Matthews gradually shifted away from direct combat. His contributions proved far more impactful when focused on design, strategy, and long-term development.

He remained present.
