The Eye was the criminal identity of Dr. Kurt Jorgen, a Nazi scientist and inventor whose experimental cybernetic visual apparatus transformed him into one of the strangest technological threats of the Golden Age. Blinded during the destruction of his laboratory by Maximilian Hellstrom, Jorgen rebuilt himself through science, replacing his lost vision with the terrifying mechanical system known as the Visopticon.

What emerged from the ruins was no longer merely a scientist.

It was a man who could see through walls, flesh, darkness, and deception itself.

And who believed that vision entitled him to power.

Dr. Kurt Jorgen

Before becoming the Eye, Kurt Jorgen was regarded as a brilliant — if deeply unethical — scientist working within the research apparatus of Nazi Germany during the Second World War.

Specializing in biology, sensory systems, and experimental electro-neurological engineering, Jorgen conducted increasingly dangerous research into enhancing human perception and integrating machinery directly with the nervous system.

Even among Nazi scientists, his methods were considered extreme.

Jorgen himself cared little.

He believed ordinary human senses were primitive limitations that science would inevitably overcome.

Then his work exploded around him.

The Destruction Of The Laboratory

During one of Maximilian Hellstrom’s wartime operations against Nazi scientific installations, Jorgen’s laboratory was destroyed in a catastrophic attack.

The resulting explosion blinded him permanently.

Most assumed he had died.

Instead, the injury only accelerated his obsession.

Working in secret with surviving research materials and experimental equipment, Jorgen developed an artificial sensory apparatus unlike anything the world had ever seen.

The device became known as the Visopticon.

The Visopticon

The Visopticon was not simply a pair of mechanical eyes.

It was a full-spectrum cybernetic visual system wired directly into Jorgen’s visual cortex and nervous system. The machinery permanently fused to his brain, replacing ordinary human sight entirely with a vastly expanded form of perception.

The process saved his ability to function.

But it also transformed his understanding of reality itself.

Jorgen no longer merely saw the world.

He scanned it.

Becoming The Eye

Empowered by the Visopticon and consumed by hatred toward Hellstrom, Jorgen volunteered his services fully to the Nazi regime under the identity of the Eye.

The name reflected both his transformed appearance and his terrifying perceptual abilities.

Operating as scientific operative, intelligence asset, and battlefield menace, the Eye used his expanded senses to track hidden enemies, uncover espionage networks, and battle Allied heroes directly.

He became particularly obsessed with hunting Maximilian Hellstrom personally, blaming him not only for his injuries but for forcing him into what he viewed simultaneously as transcendence and damnation.

Powers And Abilities

Though not superhuman biologically, the Eye’s Visopticon granted him sensory capabilities far beyond ordinary human limits.

His abilities included:

• Ultraviolet vision
• X-ray vision
• Electromagnetic-spectrum perception
• Enhanced targeting systems
• Environmental scanning
• Detection through walls and concealment

To ordinary opponents, fighting the Eye often felt impossible.

There was nowhere to hide.

The Visopticon also possessed offensive energy systems capable of projecting powerful electrical discharges.

These bolts could:

• Inflict lethal electrical trauma

The exact mechanism behind the weaponized discharge remains debated among later scientists, though most agree the Visopticon operated at technological levels decades ahead of wartime engineering.

Unlike many Nazi supervillains driven primarily by ideology, Jorgen’s deepest loyalty ultimately belonged to science itself.

The Visopticon fundamentally altered how Jorgen experienced reality. Surrounded constantly by layers of electromagnetic perception invisible to ordinary people, he began viewing normal human beings as limited creatures trapped inside biological ignorance.

This intensified his existing elitism dramatically.

He saw himself not as crippled, but evolved.

At the same time, his hatred of Maximilian Hellstrom remained intensely personal and emotional — one of the few passions surviving beneath his scientific detachment.

For all his talk of superior perception, revenge still blinded him.

Death

The Eye ultimately perished sometime after the war under circumstances that remain partially unclear. Various accounts suggest destruction during a final confrontation, catastrophic Visopticon overload, or collapse of experimental systems connected directly to his nervous system.

Given the nature of Golden Age comic-book continuity, rumors of surviving Visopticon prototypes occasionally continue to surface.

None have been confirmed.

Legacy

The Eye became one of the classic wartime science-villains of the Golden Age, blending pulp super-science, cybernetic horror, Nazi occult technology, and tragic obsession into a memorable enemy of the wartime heroes.

Because Kurt Jorgen lost his sight.

Then built himself eyes that could see far too much.
