"You live in chaos. Still… you try to be kind. I think I understand."
— Tremor
Tremor was the surface-world identity of an Annelid explorer who took the human name Kent Kerby. A being of immense strength and sensitivity, he sought to understand humanity—and ultimately gave his life in service to both worlds.
Background
[edit]Tremor was a member of the Annelids, a subterranean species of worm-like beings who lived deep beneath the Earth in a highly ordered and peaceful society. In contrast to the turbulence of the surface world, Annelid civilization valued harmony, cooperation, and collective understanding.
Chosen as an explorer, Tremor was sent to the surface to study its inhabitants. What he found puzzled him: a world filled with conflict, violence, and unpredictability.
Yet he also found something else.
Compassion.
Intrigued by the contradictions of humanity, Tremor adopted a human identity—Kent Kerby—and began to live among surface dwellers. He formed friendships, learned their customs, and gradually came to appreciate the complexity of their nature.
Career
[edit]Seeking to help the world he did not fully understand, Tremor offered his abilities as a “superhero for hire,” joining the Seattle-based team CounterForce.
Though his motivations were not rooted in fame or reward, he embraced the role with sincerity. His immense power and unique abilities made him an effective operative, particularly in situations involving structural collapse, underground threats, or high-impact combat.
Over time, Tremor became more than an observer. He became a participant in the human story.
Powers
[edit]Tremor’s abilities were inherent to his species.
- Superhuman strength and durability
- Ability to burrow through earth and stone at extreme speeds
- Enhanced senses capable of detecting vibration and movement across distance
- Natural adaptation to subterranean and high-pressure environments
Skills
[edit]Though not trained as a traditional combatant, Tremor developed practical skills through experience.
- Effective close-range combatant relying on strength and resilience
- Skilled navigator of underground environments
- Growing understanding of human culture and behavior
Technology
[edit]Tremor relied on his natural biology rather than external technology.
Personality
[edit]Tremor was gentle, curious, and fundamentally empathetic. His outsider perspective gave him a unique view of humanity—he saw both its flaws and its virtues with clarity.
Though often confused by human conflict, he never lost faith in the possibility of understanding. His kindness and openness made him well-liked among those who knew him.
Fate
[edit]Eventually, Tremor returned to the Annelids to share what he had learned.
In accordance with their customs, his people consumed him—dismembering and devouring his body in a ritual meant to absorb his knowledge and experiences into the collective.
Thus ended Tremor’s life as an individual.
But not his story.
Legacy
[edit]Through the Annelids’ ritual, Tremor’s understanding of humanity lives on within his people. His experiences—his observations, his friendships, his belief in human potential—became part of a greater whole.
To those on the surface, he is remembered as a strange and gentle hero.
To his people, he became something more.
Knowledge.
