“I was denied victory in life. I claim it in eternity!”
Black Paladin

Black Paladin is the immortal and cursed identity of Sir Cain of Darkwood, a medieval knight who traded his humanity for power and eternal life. Twisted by centuries of unnatural existence, he has endured across ages as a figure of terror, vengeance, and unyielding will.

Origin

[edit]

Sir Cain of Darkwood was a knight of formidable skill and ambition in the medieval era. His campaigns brought him into conflict with the ancient Templars, whose defeat of Cain marked a turning point in his life.

Unwilling to accept defeat, Cain sought power beyond mortal means. He entered into a pact with a wizard, bargaining for the strength to conquer his enemies.

The price was severe.

Cain was granted eternal life and immense physical power—but his body continued to age, warping and decaying over time. What had once been a proud warrior became a grotesque and unnatural figure, his face hidden behind an armored mask to conceal his transformation.

Thus was born the Black Paladin.

Reign Of Terror

[edit]

As the Black Paladin, Cain spread fear across the medieval world. Armed with supernatural strength and sustained by his cursed immortality, he waged war against those who had opposed him, seeking to rewrite his defeat through domination.

His campaign was ultimately brought to an end by a group of heroes who defeated and entombed him beneath his own castle, sealing him within the catacombs below.

There he remained, dormant, for centuries.

Awakening

[edit]

In the modern age, the re-emergence of a new Templar in San Francisco drew Cain back into the world. The ancient grudge had not faded with time.

Awakened from his long imprisonment, the Black Paladin sought out the modern knight, determined to settle the conflict that had defined his existence.

Though the world had changed, Cain had not.

The Plunderers

[edit]

During the Silver Age, the Black Paladin aligned himself with the Plunderers, a villain team whose goals aligned with his own destructive ambitions. Within the group, he served as a powerful enforcer and symbol of enduring menace.

His presence added a mythic and historical dimension to the team, linking ancient curses with modern conflict.

Powers

[edit]

The Black Paladin possesses formidable supernatural abilities.

  • Superhuman Strength – Greatly enhanced physical power
  • Superhuman Speed – Moves with unnatural quickness
  • Superhuman Durability – Resistant to injury and fatigue
  • Immortality – Cannot die of age, sustained by his curse

These abilities make him a relentless opponent in battle.

Skills

[edit]

Sir Cain retains the skills of a master medieval warrior.

  • Expert in swordsmanship and medieval weaponry
  • Skilled horseman
  • Experienced battlefield tactician
  • Able to quickly learn and adapt to new languages and cultures

His centuries of existence have broadened his knowledge, even as his mindset remains rooted in an earlier age.

Technology

[edit]

The Black Paladin relies on traditional arms and armor.

  • Enchanted or reinforced medieval armor
  • Bladed weapons suited to his combat style
  • Occasional adaptation to modern tools when necessary

His power lies more in his curse than in any device.

Personality

[edit]

Cain is driven by pride, resentment, and an unyielding desire to overcome his past defeat. He views the world through the lens of conquest and honor, shaped by the values of his original era.

His immortality has not granted him wisdom so much as fixation. The passage of time has only deepened his obsessions, leaving him trapped in a cycle of vengeance.

He does not seek redemption.

He seeks victory—no matter how long it takes.

Legacy

[edit]

The Black Paladin stands as a relic of a darker age, carried forward into the modern world by curse and will. His existence bridges centuries, embodying the dangers of power gained without cost fully understood.

Though last seen during the Silver Age, his fate remains uncertain.

As long as his curse endures, the possibility of his return remains.

And with it, the shadow of a war that never truly ended.
