Rasputin is the alias of Valentin Rasputin, a mysterious Russian psychic predator and master spy whose terrifying psionic abilities allow him to drain memories, willpower, and even life force from his victims. Long connected to covert intelligence programs and shadow operations dating back to the Cold War, Rasputin became one of the most dangerous recurring enemies of Overcoat, with whom he shares a deeply entangled and partially obscured past.
To intelligence agencies, he is a rumor.
To survivors, he is a nightmare that leaves pieces of the mind missing.
Origins
[edit]Very little verified information exists regarding Valentin Rasputin’s early life. Available evidence strongly suggests he was born somewhere within the Soviet Union and eventually became associated with secret intelligence training programs linked to Soviet covert operations.
Many investigators believe Rasputin emerged from the same clandestine experimental network that produced Overcoat, though neither man has ever confirmed the connection publicly.
If true, it would explain why the two possess similar skills in espionage, infiltration, and psychological manipulation.
It would also explain why they seem to understand one another so well.
Perhaps too well.
Cold War Activities
[edit]Throughout the late Cold War period, Rasputin appeared repeatedly in connection with covert operations, disappearances, assassinations, and intelligence incidents across Europe and Asia. Western agencies suspected him of ties to the KGB, though no definitive records proving his membership have ever surfaced.
This uncertainty only deepened his legend.
Unlike conventional spies, Rasputin possessed horrifying psionic abilities capable of extracting information directly from victims’ minds. Witnesses described interrogations leaving targets mentally shattered, emotionally hollow, or unable to remember entire portions of their lives.
Some victims simply died.
Others survived wishing they had not.
Rivalry With Overcoat

The two have battled repeatedly over decades across battlefields, intelligence operations, criminal conspiracies, and shadow wars without either side ever achieving a decisive victory.
Their confrontations often feel deeply personal.
Both men possess:

- psychological manipulation skills
- covert operational training
- willingness to operate in moral gray areas
Where Overcoat still clings to fragments of conscience and restraint, however, Rasputin abandoned such limitations long ago.
Each encounter between them resembles less a superhero battle than a duel between aging predators who know each other’s instincts intimately.

Personality
[edit]Rasputin is cold, intelligent, predatory, and profoundly manipulative. Decades spent consuming the minds and memories of others appear to have eroded much of his ordinary humanity.
He treats people less as individuals than as repositories of useful experiences and emotions.
At times he displays traces of dark humor and old-world sophistication, but these qualities only make him more unsettling. Rasputin rarely raises his voice or loses emotional control because he almost never needs to.
He already knows what frightens people most.
And he enjoys using it.
Legacy
[edit]Rasputin became one of the defining espionage and psionic villains of the modern era and the arch-enemy of Overcoat. His stories blended Cold War paranoia, psychic horror, covert warfare, and psychological predation into one of the darker recurring antagonists of the Crucible Universe.
Because Valentin Rasputin does not merely kill his enemies.
He consumes them.
