— Oblio
Background
Oblio is a spherix, a semi-sentient animal species native to the worlds of the galactic rim. Although outwardly small, round, and deceptively harmless in appearance, spherixes are noted for their unusual intelligence, emotional sensitivity, and strong social bonds.
Oblio came into the care of the Liberators following a mission involving a violent raid by warriors of the Karnak Empire. During the attack, Oblio’s family group was killed, leaving the young creature orphaned.
The Liberators subsequently adopted him aboard their vessel, where he gradually became the team’s unofficial mascot, companion, morale officer, and occasional source of chaos.
Even the notoriously grim Viceroy eventually developed an obvious affection for the creature, though he rarely admits it publicly.
Personality
Oblio is curious, affectionate, mischievous, and remarkably empathetic. Although incapable of fully human speech, he appears able to understand emotional tone, interpersonal tension, and at least portions of spoken language.
Members of the Liberators frequently treat Oblio as both a pet and a fellow crew member, often forgetting that he technically belongs to neither category.
The creature has demonstrated surprising bravery during dangerous situations and possesses an uncanny tendency to appear exactly where dramatic events are unfolding.
Biology
Spherixes are poorly understood outside the galactic rim territories. Reports suggest they possess limited problem-solving intelligence approaching sapience, though scholars continue to debate where they fall on the spectrum between highly intelligent animal and true sentient species.
Oblio himself has displayed behavior suggesting emotional awareness far beyond ordinary animal cognition.
Notes
Oblio became a recurring fan-favorite supporting character within THE LIBERATORS, providing warmth, humor, and emotional grounding amid the cosmic warfare and interstellar politics of the series.
