Captain Fortune II is the modern heir to a Golden Age legacy, the masked identity of Chance Van Warren. Once a carefree playboy, he was transformed by a supernatural calling into a dedicated crimefighter, carrying forward the mantle of his ancestor Captain Fortune.
Where the original saw the future, Chance bends probability.
Origin
[edit]Chance Van Warren was born into wealth and legacy—but for much of his early life, he ignored both.
A descendant of the famed Golden Age hero Captain Fortune, Chance chose instead to live as a dissolute socialite, drifting through a life of privilege without purpose.
That changed in a single night.
He experienced a vivid vision in which his late grandfather appeared before him, warning that the same eternal struggle between good and evil had returned—and that Chance was meant to stand in it.
Unlike the fragmented visions of the original Captain Fortune, this moment was clear, direct, and undeniable.
It shook him completely.
Becoming Captain Fortune
[edit]Determined to live up to the legacy he had ignored, Chance began rebuilding himself.
Though already a trained engineer, he sought out masters to train him in:
- Martial arts
- Detection and investigation
- Stealth and infiltration
At the same time, he developed a suite of advanced gadgets to support his new mission.
Finally, he donned an updated version of his grandfather’s costume—and took the same name:
Captain Fortune.
Not as inheritance.
As responsibility.
