CyberCaptain (real name Rick Banner) is a modern superhero operating in Pacific City, and one of the most unusual success stories of the Modern Age: a hero who began as a manufactured fiction and chose to become something real.
Originally created as part of the corporate CyberCaptains™ program, Banner exposed the entire operation as a fraud—then stayed on to do the job for real.
Origin: The CyberCaptains™ Program
[edit]The CyberCaptains™ were never meant to be real heroes.
They were a corporate invention: a cynical marketing scheme in which carefully selected cities were “assigned” a superhero and a supporting cast of themed villains. The “heroes” were actors, athletes, and media personalities, trained to perform staged battles, public appearances, and product tie-ins. The villains were likewise employees, their crimes scripted to create controlled spectacle.
The goal was simple: merchandising, licensing, media saturation—and profit.
Former PHASE I soldier Rick Banner was cast as the CyberCaptain of Pacific City.
At first, he played the role as intended. He wore the suit, fought the staged villains, and delivered the lines. But Banner was not comfortable living inside a lie—especially as real threats began to emerge that the staged program was never designed to handle.
Everything changed when the villains Phobos and Deimos turned a staged conflict with costumed "villains" into a genuine crisis that threatened to destroy Pacific City. Banner stepped beyond the script, fought to save the city, and succeeded.
Afterward, he exposed the CyberCaptains™ program to the world.
Becoming Real
[edit]The exposure of the program should have ended CyberCaptain.
Instead, it transformed him.
Public reaction was complicated. Some saw Banner as a fraud. Others saw him as the only one who had taken the role seriously enough to become a real hero when it mattered. Authorities, recognizing both his actions and the need for protectors in Pacific City, permitted him to continue operating as CyberCaptain.
Banner himself made the choice.
He abandoned the staged elements of the program and rebuilt his identity from the ground up. The original corporate gear—designed more for spectacle than reliability—was replaced or heavily modified with the help of legitimate engineers, technicians, and independent experts.
The suit became real. The weapons became functional. The systems became trustworthy.
The role became the man.
Partnership With Saber
[edit]In the years that followed, CyberCaptain formed a partnership with Saber, one of Pacific City’s leading heroes. The two complement each other effectively: Saber’s combat prowess and discipline paired with Banner’s mobility, adaptability, and technological edge.
Together, they have become the most prominent superhero presence in Pacific City.

To some, he will always be the “fake hero” who turned real. To others, that is exactly what makes him compelling. He did not inherit power, destiny, or legacy. He was handed a costume and a script—and chose to step beyond both.
In Pacific City, he is recognized as a legitimate protector. When the moment came, he did not follow the script—he saved lives.
Legacy
