Lady Hellfire is the demonic sorceress identity of Janet Devereaux, an occult scholar who willingly embraced infernal power in pursuit of transcendence. Once a student of arcane philosophy, Devereaux became the servant — and later the rival — of the demon Surgat, eventually seeking nothing less than full transformation into a true demon herself.
To further that ambition, she assembled the supervillain team known as the Hellrazers, gathering together powerful outcasts, monsters, and destroyers beneath her command.
Early Life
[edit]Janet Devereaux was an exceptionally gifted student of comparative religion, occult history, and arcane philosophy. Fascinated by forbidden texts and esoteric traditions from an early age, she pursued knowledge others considered dangerous, gradually becoming obsessed with the idea that supernatural beings represented a higher state of existence than ordinary humanity.
Unlike many occultists, Devereaux did not seek power merely for wealth or influence.
She sought transformation.
Her studies eventually led her into contact with the demon Surgat, an ancient infernal entity skilled in temptation, corruption, and metaphysical bargains. Surgat recognized Devereaux’s ambition immediately and offered her what she most desired: access to genuine demonic power.
She accepted willingly.
Servant Of Surgat
[edit]Through occult rituals and infernal pacts, Janet Devereaux became the empowered agent known as Lady Hellfire. Surgat granted her supernatural abilities in exchange for service, using her as a mortal emissary capable of operating freely in the human world.
For a time, Lady Hellfire acted entirely as the demon’s instrument, spreading chaos, corruption, and occult influence while deepening her mastery of dark magic.
Yet the more power she gained, the less willing she became to remain anyone’s servant.
Devereaux began to see Surgat not as a master, but as a limitation.
Rebellion
[edit]Eventually Lady Hellfire broke free from Surgat’s direct control through a combination of cunning, forbidden rituals, and sheer force of will. The rebellion permanently altered her relationship with infernal powers. No longer merely borrowing demonic energy, she began reshaping herself into something increasingly inhuman.
From that point onward, her ultimate goal became clear:
she intended to ascend fully into demonic existence.
Unlike many occult villains driven by destruction alone, Lady Hellfire views demonhood as evolution — a transcendence of weakness, mortality, and human limitation.
The Hellrazers
[edit]Recognizing that she needed allies powerful enough to oppose heroes and supernatural enemies alike, Lady Hellfire assembled the villain team known as the Hellrazers.
The group attracted dangerous outcasts, superpowered criminals, and destructive personalities drawn either to Hellfire’s charisma or to the chaos surrounding her ambitions. Under her leadership, the Hellrazers became one of the more feared villain teams of the modern era, frequently battling heroes such as the Gauntlet and others tied to occult or supernatural threats.
Unlike many villain teams, however, the Hellrazers often resembled a cult as much as a criminal organization.
