Longshot

Longshot is the heavily modified personal vehicle of the vigilante Gunslinger. Outwardly appearing to be a black Jaguar XJ-S grand touring coupe, Longshot conceals an extensive suite of surveillance systems, defensive countermeasures, communications equipment, and covert technology developed over many years by Matt Davis himself.

Unlike many superhero vehicles, Longshot is not designed for open combat. It is a reconnaissance, pursuit, infiltration, and escape platform built according to the principles of professional intelligence work. Every system exists for a practical purpose, and every modification reflects Gunslinger's philosophy that preparation wins battles long before the first shot is fired.

Overview

Purchased shortly after Davis left the Scientific Intelligence Agency, the Jaguar became the foundation for decades of careful engineering and continual refinement. Rather than replacing the vehicle every few years, Gunslinger chose to improve the same automobile over time, eventually transforming it into one of the most sophisticated covert vehicles in operation.

Longshot's appearance remains intentionally understated. Finished in gloss black with subtle red pinstriping, it attracts surprisingly little attention despite its exotic pedigree. Criminals who recognize it, however, understand exactly what its arrival means.

Performance

Although heavily modified, Longshot retains the elegant character of the original Jaguar while substantially improving reliability and performance.

The engine has been rebuilt for durability rather than maximum horsepower, allowing sustained high-speed pursuit without sacrificing dependability. Reinforced suspension, upgraded brakes, run-flat tires, and composite armor panels permit the vehicle to survive conditions that would disable an ordinary sports car.

A secondary battery-powered electric drive allows the vehicle to travel silently for short distances during surveillance or covert operations.

Surveillance Systems

Longshot functions as a mobile intelligence platform.

Concealed cameras provide nearly complete visibility around the vehicle, while directional microphones, encrypted communications equipment, police-band receivers, and sophisticated navigation systems allow Gunslinger to gather information without exposing himself.

The onboard computer archives recordings, maps escape routes, and assists with tactical planning. Although technologically advanced, nearly every component has been selected for reliability rather than novelty.

Defensive Systems

In keeping with Gunslinger's preference for nonlethal methods, Longshot emphasizes escape and disabling measures over destructive weapons.

Combined with removable trim pieces, interchangeable lighting assemblies, and carefully selected paint treatments, the vehicle can subtly alter its appearance between operations without drawing attention.

Davis has remarked that "the best disguise is the one nobody notices."

Hidden compartments throughout the vehicle contain equipment for both espionage and vigilantism.

Reputation

Among law enforcement officers, Longshot is regarded as one of the most elusive vehicles ever encountered. Security camera footage routinely captures the same automobile bearing different license plates—or seemingly vanishing altogether after entering city traffic.

Within intelligence circles, rumors persist that the Jaguar incorporates technology quietly removed from SIA prototype programs following Davis's resignation. The agency has never commented publicly.

To the criminal underworld, however, Longshot has acquired a simpler reputation.

Legacy

Longshot is one of the defining vehicles of the Bronze Age urban vigilante era. It reflects Gunslinger's personality perfectly: elegant rather than flamboyant, relentlessly practical, and always operating several moves ahead of the opposition.
