Revenant is the posthumous identity of Brand Morris, a disgraced police officer whose death did not end his story, but instead transformed it into something far more severe. Once a man who abused the law, he returned as its most relentless instrument, bound to a higher and far less forgiving standard of justice.
Background
[edit]Brand Morris served as a police officer, a position that should have placed him on the side of order and protection. Instead, he exploited that authority, committing acts so severe that they led to his arrest, trial, and eventual execution. His crimes, though seldom described in detail, were enough to ensure that no leniency followed him into death.
Death, however, did not bring release.
Whatever forces govern the balance between crime and consequence intervened, and Morris was returned—not as a man, but as an agent. Stripped of the ability to escape what he had done, he was compelled to confront the same forces he had once embodied, now acting under a mandate that allowed no compromise.
He became the Revenant.
Nature Of His Existence
[edit]The Revenant exists in a state that bridges the physical and the astral, able to manifest within the world of the living while remaining partially removed from it. His presence is often described as sudden and absolute, appearing where it is least expected but most deserved, drawn to acts that resonate with the same moral weight that once defined his own fall.
Whether he serves a specific cosmic authority or operates as part of a broader, impersonal system of balance is unclear. What is evident is that his actions follow a consistent pattern: he appears, he judges, and he acts.
There is no appeal.
The Midnight Men
[edit]Despite his origins and nature, the Revenant has at times operated alongside the Midnight Men, a group accustomed to confronting supernatural and occult threats. Within that context, he functions less as a teammate in the conventional sense and more as an aligned force, one whose objectives intersect with theirs when greater evils are at work.
His presence among them is tolerated.
Sometimes it is even welcomed.
Powers
[edit]The Revenant’s abilities reflect his altered state of existence.

[edit]Among those who deal in the occult, the Revenant is regarded with a mixture of fear and recognition, an entity that cannot be bargained with and rarely misdirected. Criminal elements that encounter him often do not survive long enough to describe the experience, but stories circulate nonetheless, portraying him as something that arrives when the scales have tipped too far.
Among allies, he is not trusted in the conventional sense.
He is understood.
Legacy
[edit]The Revenant represents a particular kind of justice, one that operates beyond law and beyond redemption as it is commonly understood. His existence suggests that some debts persist even after death, and that the consequences of one life can extend indefinitely.
Brand Morris escaped judgment once.
He has not done so since.
