Taurus is a genetically engineered hybrid creature created by Clone Master during his experiments in artificial evolution and biological manipulation. Designed as an attempt to recreate the mythic power and symbolism of the ancient minotaur, Taurus escaped his creator’s control and emerged into the modern world as a brilliant, dangerous revolutionary figure.
Though outwardly monstrous, Taurus possesses a calculating intellect and a deep understanding of humanity’s fears, hypocrisies, and cruelty. Gathering together fellow outcasts and genetic aberrations, he formed the villain team known as Xodiac, determined to build a world where beings like himself would no longer live in hiding.
Whether that dream represents liberation or conquest depends entirely on who is telling the story.
Creation
[edit]During his long career of forbidden experimentation, Clone Master pursued countless avenues of genetic engineering, hybridization, accelerated evolution, and artificial life creation. Most of his projects focused on improving humanity or transcending its biological limitations.
Taurus represented something more symbolic.
Clone Master attempted to engineer a living embodiment of myth itself: a creature combining human intelligence with overwhelming animal power and primal instinct.
The result horrified even him.
Though physically magnificent, the hybrid mind proved unstable during early development. Taurus experienced violent emotional extremes, predatory impulses, and profound alienation from both humanity and the animal kingdom. Clone Master reportedly viewed the experiment as a catastrophic failure.
Taurus overheard this judgment.
And never forgot it.
Escape Into The World
[edit]Eventually, Taurus escaped Clone Master’s laboratories and disappeared into the outside world.
At first, survival consumed him. His monstrous appearance made ordinary existence impossible, forcing him into secrecy, violence, and isolation. Yet unlike many failed experiments, Taurus adapted rapidly. He educated himself obsessively, studying human civilization, military history, political movements, psychology, and systems of power.
Over time, his hatred evolved into ideology.
Taurus concluded that humanity would never truly accept beings it considered unnatural. Society demanded conformity, beauty, and familiarity — and anything outside those boundaries became feared, hunted, or exploited.
He would create a new order instead.
One ruled by the rejected.
Xodiac
[edit]To pursue this vision, Taurus gathered around himself a collection of similarly marginalized superhumans, mutants, outcasts, and unstable enhanced beings.
The group became known as Xodiac.
Unlike many villain teams assembled purely for profit or destruction, Xodiac possessed a stronger ideological core shaped directly by Taurus’s worldview. Its members often saw themselves not simply as criminals, but as survivors of a world that despised them.
Taurus ruled the group through intelligence, strength, and sheer force of personality. Though feared by his followers, he also inspired fierce loyalty among those who genuinely believed he offered them purpose and belonging.
The team repeatedly came into conflict with heroes such as Watchstar and other major superhuman organizations.
Powers

His abilities include:

Despite his size, Taurus moves with surprising speed and coordination, making him far more dangerous than many opponents initially expect.

[edit]Unlike mindless monsters or rage-driven brutes, Taurus is highly educated and strategically sophisticated.
His expertise includes:

Years spent studying humanity from outside its structures gave Taurus unusual insight into social systems, fear responses, and institutional weaknesses.

[edit]Though primarily relying on his natural abilities, Taurus occasionally employs advanced technology gathered through Xodiac operations.
Most notably, he possesses a holographic disguise system capable of concealing his monstrous appearance beneath the illusion of a normal human form.
Taurus reportedly dislikes using the device except when strategically necessary.
He considers it surrender.
Personality
[edit]Taurus is intelligent, patient, proud, and deeply wounded psychologically. Beneath his imposing physical presence lies someone shaped by rejection, abandonment, and the knowledge that his creator viewed him as a mistake.
That pain hardened into philosophy.
Unlike conquerors motivated purely by greed or sadism, Taurus genuinely believes civilization is fundamentally unjust toward those deemed abnormal or threatening. Unfortunately, his solutions often involve domination, intimidation, and violent revolution.
He can be surprisingly articulate and even compassionate toward fellow outsiders.
Toward humanity as a whole, however, he often displays cold contempt.
At times, Taurus resembles less a supervillain than a revolutionary who crossed too many moral lines and no longer remembers where the boundaries once stood.
Legacy
[edit]Taurus became one of the Crucible Universe’s defining tragic monster-villains, blending genetic experimentation, mythological imagery, outsider psychology, and revolutionary ideology into a complex recurring antagonist.
Because Clone Master tried to create a myth.
Instead, he created someone who remembered being called a mistake.
