Vanguard was the heroic identity of Curtis Hogan, a schoolteacher turned superhuman protector whose courage and sacrifice made him one of the most beloved members of Watchstar.
Background
[edit]Curtis Hogan was a mathematics and science teacher working in one of New York City’s toughest neighborhoods. A product of the same streets he now served, Hogan was determined to give his students a chance at something better.
His life changed during a confrontation with drug dealers who were threatening his students. In defending them, Hogan was brutally beaten and injected with an experimental narcotic intended to silence him.
Instead, the chemical transformed him.
The untested compound reacted unpredictably with his body, granting him immense strength and durability. Where it might have killed another man, Hogan endured—and emerged changed.
He chose to use those powers to continue protecting others, not just in the classroom, but on the streets.
He became Vanguard.
Career
[edit]Vanguard quickly gained attention as a powerful and dependable street-level hero, known for placing himself between danger and the innocent.
Recognizing both his strength and his character, Arcana recruited him into Watchstar. Within the team, Hogan became a cornerstone—reliable, grounded, and fiercely protective of his teammates.
He was known not only for his combat ability, but for his practicality. When not in battle, he often took on the unglamorous role of driving the team from mission to mission, reinforcing his reputation as the one who kept things moving.
His career came to a heroic end during the Hero Wars, when he sacrificed his life to save a busload of children, holding the line against overwhelming force.
