Captain Comet is the heroic identity of Major Cooper Swift, a pioneering astronaut of the early Space Age transformed by cosmic forces into one of Earth’s fastest and strongest champions.

Origin

Cooper Swift was a decorated United States Air Force major and one of the earliest astronauts selected for experimental spaceflight.

During a high-risk mission, his capsule passed through the tail of a strange, radiating comet—an event that should have destroyed the craft.

Instead, it changed him.

The comet’s unknown energies flooded the capsule, altering Swift at a fundamental level. When he returned to Earth, he discovered he had been transformed into something more than human.

Stronger. Faster. Nearly unstoppable.

He had become a living comet.

Inspired by the optimism of the era, Swift chose not to hide his transformation.
