Vortex is the heroic identity of Justin Blaylock, a former security guard transformed into a gravity-wielding parahuman after exposure to experimental black hole technology. A pragmatic operator and former hero-for-hire, he now serves as Chief of Operations for CounterForce.

Background

Justin Blaylock worked as a security guard at the prestigious Nova Institute, a center for advanced scientific research. His life changed during a catastrophic accident involving an experimental black hole generator known as the Vortexion.

When the device malfunctioned, Blaylock acted without hesitation, helping evacuate personnel and contain the situation as best he could. His actions saved many lives—but at great personal cost.

He was critically injured and fell into a coma that lasted for months.

When he awoke, he was no longer the same.
