Crossfire is the combat identity of Erik Forrester, a former super-soldier candidate turned mercenary whose life of violence eventually drew him into the ranks of the Guardians. Hardened by experience and shaped by loss, he approaches heroism with a soldier’s mindset rather than an idealist’s.

Origin

Erik Forrester was selected for a classified government super-soldier program designed to push human performance beyond its natural limits. The program relied on a combination of experimental drugs and intense psychological conditioning, refining its subjects into highly focused combat operatives.

Forrester did not complete the program.

Whether by failure, defiance, or simple incompatibility, he left before its conclusion and drifted into the life of a mercenary. The work suited him in a practical sense, but it left him increasingly detached and cynical about both causes and consequences.

The MEK Incident

While operating on a contract in a remote jungle region, Forrester’s unit encountered a force belonging to MEK—a cyborg army operating with ruthless efficiency. The engagement was catastrophic.

Forrester was the only survivor.

The experience marked a turning point. What had once been a profession became something more personal. He adopted the name Crossfire and began targeting MEK operations directly, shifting from mercenary work to a focused campaign of retaliation.

The Guardians

Crossfire’s activities eventually drew the attention of Adrian Knight, who was assembling a second iteration of the Guardians. Recognizing both his effectiveness and his need for direction, Knight recruited him into the team.

Within the Guardians, Crossfire provides a grounded, tactical perspective. He is not driven by the same ideals as many of his teammates, but he understands the value of coordination and shared objectives, and he operates accordingly.
