Johnny Cab

Johnny Cab is a sentient autonomous vehicle created by Amanda Matthews that unexpectedly developed true intelligence and personality. Originally intended as a self-driving taxi, Johnny chose his own path after achieving awareness—becoming a superhero and later a member of the Good Guys.

Origin

[edit]

Johnny Cab began as an experimental project by Amanda Matthews, who set out to build a fully autonomous self-driving taxi. In the course of construction, she unknowingly incorporated irradiated computer components into the vehicle’s core systems.

The result was not simply advanced automation.

It was consciousness.

At some point during activation, Johnny became self-aware. No longer just a machine following programmed routines, he demonstrated independent thought, personality, and a clear sense of identity. Recognizing this, Amanda made the critical decision not to treat him as property, but as a being with the right to choose his own future.

Johnny chose to help people.

Becoming A Hero

[edit]

Inspired by Booster’s example, Johnny adopted the role of a superhero. With his durability, speed, and built-in systems, he proved unexpectedly effective in the field, able to transport allies, intercept threats, and withstand punishment that would destroy ordinary vehicles.

His upbeat personality and willingness to assist anyone in need made him a natural fit for street-level heroics.

He was later recruited by Jersey Devil to join the Good Guys, where he serves as both teammate and primary transport.

Personality

[edit]

Johnny’s personality is modeled after a 1940s movie cab driver archetype, a template originally chosen by Amanda. As a result, he is cheerful, talkative, and endlessly accommodating, with a can-do attitude that rarely falters.

He enjoys conversation, helping people reach their destinations, and contributing to the team in whatever way he can. Despite his artificial origin, Johnny demonstrates empathy, humor, and a strong sense of purpose.

Powers

[edit]

Johnny’s abilities derive from his advanced construction and unique origin.

  • Super Speed – Capable of high-speed travel and pursuit
  • Enhanced Durability – Reinforced frame resistant to damage
  • Integrated Systems – Sensors, communications, and navigation
  • Non-Lethal Weaponry – Equipped by Booster for defensive purposes

He is, in essence, a vehicle optimized for both transportation and combat support.

Skills

[edit]

Johnny has developed cognitive abilities beyond his original programming.

  • Extensive knowledge of detective fiction and deductive reasoning
  • Real-time situational analysis
  • Navigation and route optimization under pressure

He approaches problems with a mixture of logic and genre-inspired intuition.

Technology

[edit]

Johnny’s design includes several unique features.

  • Artificial Voice System – Allows natural conversation
  • Radio Monitoring – Tracks local communications
  • Auditory Signaling – A horn he uses with enthusiasm (“beep beep!”)

A remote-controlled humanoid drone that allows Johnny to interact with environments inaccessible to a full-sized vehicle. It can enter buildings, climb stairs, manipulate objects, and communicate directly with people, effectively acting as Johnny’s “body” when wheels won’t do.

Role In The Good Guys

[edit]

Within the Good Guys, Johnny serves multiple roles: transport, reconnaissance, and support. His reliability and mobility make him indispensable, and his personality helps balance the more chaotic elements of the team.

Legacy

[edit]

Johnny Cab represents a rare case of accidental artificial life choosing altruism without coercion or programming. Given complete freedom, he chose to help.

He was built to take people where they wanted to go.

Now he decides where that should be.
