Fire and Ice are the criminal identities of the Murtagh twins, Conn and Shay Murtagh, powerful parahuman brothers whose elemental abilities over heat and cold have made them one of the most dangerous superhuman duos of the modern era. United by blood, resentment, and a deep dependence upon one another, the twins have repeatedly clashed with heroes such as the Gauntlet while pursuing careers as mercenaries, thieves, and super-criminals.
Though often viewed simply as opposites, the brothers are in many ways frighteningly alike.
Background
Conn and Shay Murtagh were born in Ireland and spent much of their youth moving between unstable homes, institutions, and temporary guardians after the collapse of their family life. Even before their powers emerged, the brothers relied almost entirely on one another, developing an intense bond shaped by isolation and mutual distrust of the outside world.
Their lives changed permanently after a catastrophic scientific accident involving an experimental weather-control system. Exposed to unstable atmospheric energies during the disaster, the twins developed powerful and opposing elemental abilities.
Conn emerged with command over heat and flame.
