Scourge is the criminal identity currently used by Anais Channing, a deadly parahuman whose body naturally produces lethal biochemical toxins. A thief, infiltrator, and assassin associated with Black Sunday, Scourge inherited both her codename and her place within the organization after the death of her sister Liselle, the original woman to operate under the identity.
The transition disturbed even some hardened criminals.
Because Anais did not merely replace her sister.
She seemed to become her.
The Channing Sisters
[edit]Anais and Liselle Channing were born parahumans carrying a rare and dangerous mutation that caused their bodies to produce complex toxic compounds capable of crippling or killing human beings through direct contact.
Even as children, strange accidents followed them.
Teachers became ill unexpectedly.
Bullies collapsed without explanation.
Authority figures who threatened the sisters sometimes died mysteriously days later.
By adolescence, the Channing sisters had already developed extensive criminal records involving theft, assault, extortion, and suspected murder, though proving their involvement remained extraordinarily difficult.
Very little physical evidence survived contact with them.
The Original Scourge
[edit]During a prison sentence, Liselle Channing came to the attention of Contessa, who recognized the sisters’ usefulness and recruited Liselle into Black Sunday under the codename Scourge.
Within the team, Liselle served as assassin, infiltrator, and close-quarters killer, using her toxic physiology to eliminate targets quickly and often silently.
Her career ended violently during one of Black Sunday’s early clashes with the Gauntlet, who killed her during combat.
The loss affected Anais deeply.
Though perhaps not entirely in healthy ways.
Anais Becomes Scourge
[edit]Following Liselle’s death, Contessa approached Anais and persuaded her to assume her sister’s identity within Black Sunday.
Anais accepted.
Some members of the organization later claimed the transition felt disturbingly seamless. Anais adopted the costume, methods, and even certain mannerisms of the original Scourge with unsettling precision.
Whether this reflected grief, obsession, psychological instability, or deliberate performance remains unclear.
Regardless, the new Scourge quickly proved every bit as lethal as the first.
Possibly more so.
Powers
[edit]Anais Channing’s mutated physiology allows her body to produce a variety of dangerous biochemical toxins.
These include compounds capable of causing:
- paralysis
- nerve damage
- respiratory failure
- intense pain
- hallucinations
- organ shutdown
- death
She typically delivers these toxins through elongated sharpened fingernails used like claws during close combat.
The exact composition of her toxins can vary depending on emotional state, physical condition, and conscious control.
Medical researchers consider her biology extraordinarily dangerous.
Attempts to study it directly have gone poorly.

Personality
[edit]Anais Channing is cold, predatory, emotionally volatile, and deeply shaped by her relationship with her late sister. Beneath her controlled exterior lies a complicated mixture of grief, resentment, dependency, and identity confusion.
She rarely forms emotional attachments outside tightly controlled relationships and reacts aggressively to perceived betrayal or abandonment.
At the same time, Scourge possesses an almost feline confidence in dangerous situations. She enjoys making opponents uncomfortable and often uses psychological intimidation as effectively as her toxins.
Though unquestionably dangerous, Anais is not entirely sadistic. Much of her cruelty stems from a worldview shaped by lifelong alienation, fear, and the knowledge that simple human contact could become fatal.
To Scourge, closeness has always meant danger.
Black Sunday
[edit]Within Black Sunday, Scourge functions as infiltrator and assassin, carrying out operations requiring stealth, intimidation, or discreet elimination.
Her relationship with Contessa remains unusually loyal by criminal standards. Some observers believe Contessa manipulated Anais’ grief deliberately to secure that loyalty.
Others suspect Anais understands this perfectly and simply does not care.
Legacy
[edit]Scourge became one of the darker assassin figures of the modern era, blending toxic parahuman abilities, inherited identity, psychological instability, and stealth-oriented villainy into a uniquely unsettling recurring adversary.
Because for Anais Channing, poison was never merely a weapon.
It was inheritance.
