Captain Fortune is the masked identity of Tyler Van Warren, a Golden Age mystic hero whose mastery of martial arts and glimpses of the future made him one of the era’s most unusual champions.
Guided by visions of a coming war between good and evil, he dedicated his life—and his fortune—to ensuring that the right side would prevail.
Origin
[edit]Tyler Van Warren was the son of Alec Van Warren, a wealthy scholar and world traveler in the years before World War II.
During a flight over the Himalayas, their private plane was attacked by sky pirates and shot down in a remote mountain region. Tyler survived the crash alongside his critically injured parents.
Alone and desperate, the young boy fought off the attackers and dragged his parents to shelter in a hidden cave.
The cave was not what it seemed.
It was the entrance to an ancient underground temple, home to a secret order of monks devoted to martial and mystical disciplines. The monks attempted to save Tyler’s parents, but their injuries were too severe.
Orphaned, Tyler was taken in by the order.
Training Of The Monks
[edit]For over a decade, Tyler was trained in the monks’ secret arts—disciplines that combined physical mastery with spiritual insight. Among these teachings was a rare and dangerous ability:
The power to glimpse the future.
Though gifted, Tyler’s training remained incomplete. His visions came unbidden, fragmented, and often overwhelming.
Then came the vision that changed everything.
The Vision
[edit]One night, Tyler experienced a terrible and vivid prophecy.
He saw a vast conflict—good against evil—spanning nations and involving heroes he had never met. He saw himself among them, standing against darkness in a struggle that would shape the fate of the world.
Cut off from the outside world, Tyler did not know that global war was already on the horizon.
But he understood enough.
He could not remain hidden.
Return To America
[edit]Before completing his training, Tyler fled the temple and made his way back to the United States.
There, he discovered he had inherited his family’s vast fortune.
He chose to use it as a weapon.
Adopting the identity of Captain Fortune, he began a career as a crimefighter and spy-smasher, targeting threats both domestic and foreign. His wealth funded advanced equipment, intelligence networks, and operations designed to combat the rising tide of global conflict.
The Victory Squadron
[edit]Captain Fortune’s visions did not leave him.
He recognized faces. Names. Futures.
Using his prophetic insight, he sought out and recruited the heroes he had seen in his vision, forming the team known as the Victory Squadron.
As its leader, he guided the group through some of the most dangerous conflicts of the Golden Age, often acting on knowledge no one else possessed.
