Ember is the codename of Sarah Augustyn, a powerful psionic whose abilities were discovered, exploited, and brutally enhanced by HAVOC before she escaped their control. Forged through trauma and discipline, she has become both a formidable telepath and a determined protector, now serving as a member of the Corsairs.
Origin
[edit]Sarah Augustyn’s life was irrevocably altered at a young age when she was abducted from her home by agents of HAVOC. Identified as possessing unusually high psychic potential, she was taken as part of a program designed to weaponize human psionics.
Her family was killed during the abduction.
Within HAVOC’s facilities, Sarah endured extensive conditioning. Her powers were forcibly expanded through a series of invasive and often painful procedures, while psychological pressure and chemical dependency were used to maintain control. The intent was clear: to create a psychic weapon that could be deployed at will.
Sarah resisted.
Rescue
[edit]HAVOC’s plans did not go unnoticed. Alpha, herself a survivor of a similar program, had been monitoring the scientists involved. Recognizing the danger, she coordinated with Watchstar to locate and extract Sarah.
The rescue was successful.
What followed was more complicated.
Reckoning
[edit]Freed from captivity, Sarah was consumed by anger. The extent of what had been done to her—and the loss she had suffered—left her determined to use her powers to eliminate those responsible. Her abilities made that possibility very real.
Alpha intervened.
Drawing on her own experience, she persuaded Sarah to take a different path: not execution, but justice. Together with Watchstar, Sarah helped track down every individual involved in the program. Each was captured and brought to account.
The decision marked a turning point.
Becoming Ember
[edit]Rather than withdraw, Sarah chose to act. Taking the name Ember, she began using her abilities to help others, particularly those who could not defend themselves against hidden or systemic threats.
Her work eventually led to recruitment by the Corsairs, where her abilities and experience made her a valuable member of the team.
