Janie Saturn is the adventurous identity of Jane Jennifer Jerome, the daughter of the Silver Age science hero Doctor Saturn. As a teenager, Janie became famous for slipping past her father’s restrictions and stumbling into bizarre cosmic, scientific, and historical adventures, usually without Doctor Saturn learning the full story until much later.
Background
[edit]Janie Jerome was seventeen years old when her adventures began in earnest. Her father, Dr. Judson Jerome, had good reason to be protective. As Doctor Saturn, he had made many enemies, and Janie’s mother had already been killed by one of them. Determined to keep his daughter safe, he imposed strict limits on her movements and tried to keep her away from the dangers surrounding his career.
Janie, however, was clever, curious, and very difficult to contain. She had a remarkable talent for slipping out of Saturn Base, borrowing equipment she was not supposed to touch, and finding herself in situations that would have overwhelmed most adults. Despite the scale of these adventures, she was almost always home in time for dinner.
Adventures
[edit]Janie’s Silver Age adventures became legendary for their sheer variety and improbability. She encountered UFO-flying Saucermen, giant tentacled space gods from non-Euclidean space, undead space pirates, robot duplicates of President Eisenhower, killer doombots, angry Sea-Monkeys, Space Ace, the Mongol conqueror Genghis Khan, and at one point, the entire planet Earth.
Her adventures rarely followed ordinary logic, but Janie survived them through intelligence, nerve, and a seemingly bottomless supply of luck.

[edit]As an adult, Jane Jerome became a scientist of considerable importance in her own right. She was one of the founders of the PHASE II scientific division, helping shape the organization’s technical and research capacity during its formative years.
Her teenage adventures may have seemed whimsical, but they gave her a practical education in alien technology, temporal anomalies, exotic physics, and crisis survival that few formal institutions could have matched.
Powers
[edit]Janie had no conventional superhuman powers, but she possessed an extraordinary, almost supernatural talent for getting into and out of impossible situations.

[edit]Janie frequently made use of Doctor Saturn’s advanced technology, especially when she could sneak it out of Saturn Base. These devices varied from adventure to adventure, but often included experimental scientific tools, defensive gadgets, and equipment never intended for teenage use.
Her most notable technological companion was B.U.T.L.E.R., the guardian robot built to protect her.
Personality
[edit]Janie was bright, adventurous, and cheerfully disobedient when curiosity got the better of her. She was not reckless in the malicious sense, but she had a deep belief that mysteries were meant to be investigated and that rules were often obstacles placed between her and the truth.
Her innocence was never stupidity. Janie had a quick mind and a remarkable ability to adapt when events became strange, dangerous, or completely ridiculous.
Reputation
[edit]During the Silver Age, Janie Saturn became a beloved figure in her own right, distinct from her father’s more formal science-hero career. Where Doctor Saturn represented disciplined invention and responsibility, Janie represented curiosity, youthful daring, and the wild imaginative energy of the era.

[edit]Janie Saturn’s legacy extends from the playful absurdity of her teenage adventures to the serious scientific work of her adulthood. She began as the girl who kept sneaking out of Saturn Base and grew into one of the architects of PHASE II’s scientific foundation.
