“Yeah, nah… you don’t want to be here right now.”
— Komodo
Komodo is the altered form of Lachlan “Murph” Murphy, an Australian bush pilot who survived illegal genetic experimentation and emerged as something no longer entirely human. Now a field operative for PHASE II, he operates across the Pacific Rim, bringing a mix of brute force, survival instinct, and hard-earned experience to the fight against global threats.
Origin
[edit]Murph was a bush pilot and free-ranging adventurer, used to flying into places most people avoided. That habit finally caught up with him when he stumbled onto a hidden scientific installation on a remote Indonesian island.
The facility was not legitimate.
It was a covert program attempting to engineer super-soldiers by splicing human DNA with that of local reptilian species. Murphy was captured and used as a test subject, injected with unstable biological extracts and subjected to extreme procedures.
The initial results were catastrophic.
Murphy lost control, transforming into a violent, reptilian creature. Over time, however, something unexpected occurred: his mind reasserted itself. His personality, memory, and judgment gradually returned, stabilizing the transformation into a permanent, controlled state.
He escaped.
Aftermath
[edit]Murph managed to reach authorities and lead them back to the island. The base was shut down, its personnel arrested, and its research destroyed—including any data that might have reversed his condition.
There was no going back.
Murphy accepted that reality with surprising clarity. If he was going to live like this, he was going to use it.
Taking the name Komodo, he entered the world as a superhero.
PHASE II
[edit]Komodo was recruited by PHASE II and assigned primarily to operations in the Pacific Rim. His familiarity with remote terrain, combined with his enhanced physical abilities, made him particularly valuable in jungle, island, and maritime environments.
He has frequently worked alongside other PHASE II operatives, including Rebel.
Powers
[edit]Komodo’s transformation grants him formidable physical and instinctive abilities.
- Superhuman Strength – Significant lifting and striking power
- Enhanced Durability – Resistance to injury and environmental hazards
- Danger Sense – Near-instinctive awareness of threats
- Enhanced Physiology – Heightened resilience and endurance
His abilities are direct, physical, and highly reliable.
Skills
[edit]Murph retained all of his pre-transformation experience.
- Expert bush pilot
- Survival and navigation in extreme environments
- Tracking and fieldcraft
- Improvisational problem-solving
He is also known for his storytelling, often recounting past exploits with a dry, understated humor.
Personality
[edit]Murph is pragmatic, unflappable, and quietly resilient. He does not dwell on what was done to him, nor does he romanticize it. He treats his condition the way he treats most things: as a problem to be managed and a reality to work within.
He is not bitter.
But he has not forgotten.
Reputation
[edit]Within PHASE II, Komodo is regarded as a dependable field operative, especially in difficult terrain. Among those who have worked with him, he is known for staying calm under pressure and for having instincts that are almost impossible to second-guess.
Legacy
[edit]Komodo represents adaptation in its purest form. He did not choose what he became, but he chose what to do with it. In a world of engineered power and unintended consequences, he stands as one of the few who turned both into something useful.
He didn’t get cured.
He got to work.
