Power Man is the heroic identity of Dr. Allan Gordon, one of the earliest and most powerful superhumans of the Crucible era. A figure whose career spans from the Golden Age of World War II to the present interstellar age, he has served as a champion of Earth, a founding member of the Unity League, and now a leading defender among the Citadel.
Background
[edit]Before the Second World War, Allan Gordon was a pioneering astronomer and physicist, best known for developing the Etheric Radioscope, a device capable of transmitting and receiving signals across interstellar distances. During its first successful test, Gordon made contact with a passing alien vessel whose occupants identified themselves as the Benefactors.
They came to him.
They took him aboard.
They changed him.
The beings—later understood to be agents of the Karnak Empire—subjected Gordon to a series of experiments designed to unlock and enhance his latent potential. When he was returned to Earth, he was no longer the man who had entered their craft.
He was something more.
Transformation
[edit]Gordon’s transformation manifested during a violent confrontation with agents of a rival scientist. In the struggle, his body shifted into a new form: stronger, faster, and nearly invulnerable. The confrontation ended with the accidental deaths of his attackers and the destruction of his Radioscope.
The event defined him.
From that moment forward, he swore to use his abilities only for the benefit of humanity, adopting the identity of Power Man.
Golden Age Hero

During World War II, Power Man became one of the central figures of the Victory Squadron, using his immense power in defense of his country and the Allied cause. At the time, the true nature of the Benefactors—and their motives—remained unknown to him.
He fought for Earth.
He believed in what he was doing.
Disillusionment
[edit]The turning point in Gordon’s life came with the death of his brother, Isotope Man, whose execution was carried out by Doctor Omega with the approval of the United States government. The event shattered Gordon’s faith in the institutions he had served and forced him to confront the moral complexities of power, authority, and loyalty.
He did not turn against humanity.
But he no longer believed it was singular.
The Unity League
[edit]After the war, Gordon relocated to Unity City, where he became a founding member of the Unity League, one of the defining teams of the Silver Age. His leadership, experience, and sheer power made him a cornerstone of the group during its early years.
Yet even as he helped shape a new era of heroism, his attention increasingly turned outward.
Toward the stars.
Departure From Earth
[edit]Eventually, Gordon chose to leave Earth altogether, departing under his own power to explore the wider universe. What began as a personal journey evolved into a new chapter of service, as he encountered civilizations, conflicts, and responsibilities far beyond his original scope.
The galaxy did not reject him.
It accepted him.
The Citadel
