“I have died for causes that deserved it, and for causes that did not. I choose more carefully now.”
— Saracen
Saracen is the name taken by an immortal warrior whose origins lie in the era of the Crusades, and whose long life has carried him across centuries of conflict, change, and unfinished battles. Neither bound to nation nor time, he has become a wandering figure defined by honor, persistence, and the burden of survival.
Background
[edit]The man known as Saracen was born in what is now Saudi Arabia during the time of the Crusades, serving as a soldier in the armies of Saladin. His life changed irrevocably when he saved the life of a powerful wizard, an act that earned him an unusual reward: immortality, bound to a set of enchanted rings that would shape his existence thereafter.
The gift was not simple.
It ensured that death would never be final.
The Long Life
[edit]Over the centuries, Saracen has wandered the world, adapting to shifting cultures, technologies, and systems of power while maintaining a personal code rooted in honor and responsibility. He has taken on many roles—soldier, mercenary, protector—but consistently gravitates toward causes that allow him to act as a corrective force against injustice.
His immortality is not invulnerability. He can be wounded, even killed, but he inevitably returns, restored through means that remain only partially understood. Each death carries a cost, not in permanence, but in memory and perspective, shaping a worldview that is both patient and wary.
Time has not diminished him.
It has complicated him.
Lazarus X
[edit]Among the many figures who have intersected with Saracen’s long history, none has been more persistent than Lazarus X. Their encounters span generations, defined by cycles of conflict that mirror Saracen’s own inability to remain permanently at rest. The exact nature of their opposition shifts over time, but the pattern remains consistent: when one appears, the other is rarely far behind.
Watchstar
[edit]In the modern era, Saracen briefly joined the third incarnation of Watchstar, aiding the team during their conflict with the Riders, a parasitic species capable of controlling hosts through spore infection. His experience with unusual and persistent threats made him a valuable asset in a situation where conventional tactics proved insufficient.
Though his tenure with the team was limited, his presence reinforced the sense that Watchstar’s reach extended beyond any single era.
Powers
[edit]Saracen’s primary ability is tied to his immortality.
- Restoration from death through unknown mystical processes
- Resistance to permanent physical destruction
In addition, his enchanted rings provide a range of magical effects, though their full capabilities have never been comprehensively documented.
Skills
[edit]Saracen’s greatest strengths come from experience accumulated over centuries.
- Mastery of edged weapons, including sword and dagger
- Skilled horseman and battlefield tactician
- Extensive knowledge of warfare across multiple historical periods
- Adaptability to changing environments and technologies
He fights with the weight of history behind him.
Technology
[edit]Saracen’s rings are the source of his immortality and other magical abilities. Their origin remains unclear beyond their connection to the wizard who granted them, and their functions appear to extend beyond simple enchantment, operating as anchors that bind him to continued existence.
He carries them always.
Personality
[edit]Saracen is measured, reflective, and shaped by the passage of time. While he retains a core sense of honor, his experiences have tempered any inclination toward certainty, leaving him cautious in choosing the causes to which he commits himself.
He has seen too many battles to treat any lightly.
Yet he continues to fight.
Reputation
[edit]To those aware of him, Saracen is a figure of quiet legend, a warrior who appears in different centuries with the same purpose and the same name. Among heroes, he is regarded with respect; among enemies, with uncertainty, as his persistence makes him difficult to predict and impossible to eliminate.
He does not remain.
But he returns.
Legacy
[edit]Saracen represents the endurance of a personal code across time, a continuity that persists even as the world around it transforms. His existence raises questions about the cost of immortality and the nature of purpose when time ceases to be a limiting factor.
He has outlived empires.
He has not abandoned his path.
