Sentinel is the identity used by Hal Norin, a law enforcement officer from the distant future whose pursuit of a war criminal carried him into the modern era. Displaced in time and partially deprived of his memories, he adapted to an unfamiliar world, served alongside major super-teams, and ultimately became an operative in a war that spans history itself.
Background
[edit]Hal Norin originated in the year 5106 AD, an era defined by advanced technology and highly structured systems of law enforcement. As part of that system, Norin was trained not only in combat and investigation, but in the use of predictive models that allowed future officers to anticipate criminal behavior before it fully manifested.
His career changed course when he was assigned to pursue Tan Ruul, a renegade general responsible for large-scale atrocities. Ruul’s actions destabilized entire regions, and his escape into the past forced Norin to take extraordinary measures. Using future technology, Norin initiated a one-way temporal jump, following his target into a time far removed from his own.
The transition was not clean.
Arrival In The Present
[edit]Norin’s arrival in the modern era disrupted both his physiology and his memory, leaving him disoriented and uncertain of his surroundings. Operating under incomplete information, he initially came into conflict with Watchstar, interpreting their intervention as interference in an ongoing pursuit.
That conflict was brief. As his understanding stabilized, Norin recognized the nature of the situation and aligned himself with the team, becoming a member of their second incarnation. His training, combined with his advanced equipment, made him a valuable addition, particularly in engagements involving unconventional or high-threat adversaries.
Tan Ruul’s apparent death shortly thereafter closed the immediate objective of his mission, but did not resolve Norin’s situation.
Watchstar And Beyond
[edit]With his original purpose fulfilled and no clear path back to his own time, Norin remained in the present, continuing to operate as Sentinel. His tenure with Watchstar established him as a dependable, if occasionally unconventional, teammate whose perspective extended beyond the temporal assumptions of those around him.
He was later recruited by the Gauntlet to join Star Flight, where his familiarity with advanced technology and non-linear threats proved useful in off-world operations.
CHRONOS
[edit]Norin’s displacement eventually drew the attention of CHRONOS, a far-future organization dedicated to maintaining stability across the timeline. Recognizing both his origin and his experience, they recruited him as an operative, placing him within a broader conflict that extends beyond any single era.
